Code 61 pro tools 11 mac setup trouble.

Hi,
I bought code 61 controller, so happy in the beginning, then I try to make ir work with transport on pro tools 11 Mac os 10.9.5. and never worked. I try to make the B bottoms and faders works in HUI but nothing as was expected again. Bottoms played notes, faders acts like pitch wheel and play, rewind, forward and rec plays different notes of my virtual instrument but not the Play, rew, etc functions. I made the last update to my 61 but same result in the controller. Please help and thanks.

I didn't find so much infomration about this. The answer is:

In Code controller push Edit, Shift and in keyboard the key who said HUI.

I push HUI Key a couple of times and then appears HUI MAC in code display.

    Then it works.

Hope this will help to others.

  • I've just had the same issues and found a few key things that made it work (April 2018).

My now working setup: PT11, Macbook Pro 10.10.5, M-Audio Code 61 version 1.2.3 (FW v1.0.4.2)

    My findings and resolution:

    1) The packaged code 61 unit had older firmware so I had to update it straight away from M-Audio website.

    2) My PT11 Midi Settings:

    Peripherals:
    Type: HUI
    Receive From: Code 61, Macki/HUI
    Send To: Code 61, Macki/HUI
    # Ch's: 8

All boxes ticked in midi input devices

Check your midi settings are set as above in PT, save and quit PT, then shut everything down/off (Mac and Code 61).

    3) Power Up Sequence
This is the most important thing I have found. I have to power up as follows otherwise it won’t work and I get the same error as originally posted:

    a) Ensure All cables are already connected before powering up any devices (I've only got my USB going straight to the left port on the Mac from the code 61).
(For anyone that wants to know: The second mac port on the right of my mackbook pro is connected to a powered 7 port usb hub which has my external keyboard, mouse, external SSD, iLok and Iphone charger cable connected.)

    b) Power on the Mac

    c) Before logging into the user on the Mac, turn on the Code 61. (I.e turn the Code 61 after the computer has booted up but you haven’t logged in)

    d) Set the Code61 into HUI mode:
    i) Hit edit key, then while holding shift, hit the C# under the B3 fader until the unit display says ‘HUI’
ii) Press the ‘fader mode’, ‘Button mode’ and ‘Encoder Mode’ buttons until they are backlit green or the display says ‘MACHUI’. You need to do this for each button

    e) Login to your Mac

    f) Open Pro Tools, open a session with 8 audio tracks and 1 instrument track with a virtual instrument. Ensure you have clicked on the virual instrument insert so it is ‘active’ with the code 61.

    g) Fingers crossed everything is talking. With this approach I can get the transport, faders and rotary knobs working and playing the virtual instrument with the keys..
Note: For a while I couldn’t get the virtual instruments to make a sound (even though the transport, faders and knobs worked.... bang head against wall moment).....until I realised you have to have the instrument track armed in PT. Then everything worked.

That’s as far as I’ve gone for now, I’ve only had it 2 days but have spent hours getting it working. Definitely a power up sequence issue on my side so I’d recommend trying this sequence or trying different power up sequences with yours to get it working.

Hope this help (if anyone is still reading in 2018)
