  • Does it help to say that it works in FL Studio?
I've spent hours troubleshooting and I can't figure anything out.

  • Hi Kyle,

Make sure the Code is in HUI mode:

    - Hit the Edit key
    - Hold shift and hit the key labeled Mackie/HUI until the screen reads "HUI"
    - Release the shift button

    Hope this helps!

  • This is definitely a problem with Pro Tools so the Avid team may be able to help you more with this than I can. Try contacting them about this.

In the meantime, try one or both of these out:

  • This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Code 49 Setup.

    Hello,

I recently purchased a Code 49 and tried to set it up in my DAW (Pro Tools 12) and I followed the steps exactly in this link:

    http://m-audio.com/kb/article/1869#setup

It unfortunately didn't work and this is the error I am receiving.

"Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI Power-Cycle HUI and check its connections. Note, if HUI is not in use, update the Peripherals dialog to prevent further warnings."

    Can anyone help me out?

  • This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Code 25 and Protools 11.3.1.

I am unable to get Protools 11.3.1 to work with the code 25 controller that I received yesterday. I am running OSX 10.9.5. I configure through setup-peripherals-midi controllers. I add a HUI device and pick the Code25, Mackie/HUI for both input and output. The only option available for the channel is 8 so I just left it like it is. I have also ensured that Options-MIDI-Input Devices has a check box next to all of the Code25 options checked. I am connecting through the supplied USB port. The device is recognized and visible through the Audio Midi setup utility. I have tried to select all of the other options for the Code25 in the setup-peripherals drop downs as well but nothing seems to work. I continue to get the error message from protools, "Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI. Power-cycle HUI and check its connections Note, if HUI is not in use, update the Peripherals dialog to prevent further warnings." I am also not able to get the keyboard to function as a simple midi controller for a instrument either.
I am attaching a number of screen shots of the current configuration. Any help is much appreciated.

  • Hi everyone,

This seems to be a problem specific to how Pro Tools is choosing to communicate (or not communicate) with the keyboard,

Please verify that the keyboard is sending transport as HUI and not Mackie and ensure that you have "Midi Thru" enabled in PT.

If you are still having trouble, there is likely further settings that need to be adjusted. Contact Avid for further support on the issue.

  • Thanks, can you provide instructions on how to ensure the keyboard is sending transport as HUI?

    • Just a quick update. I downloaded and installed the MIDI monitor from above and did some testing. The device will respond for awhile, then just stop sending messages. After several reboots, it comes back to life for a bit, never the same amount of time and then just stops responding again. The MIDI monitor still sees the device as being on when this occurs, but does not see any incoming messages, MIDI or otherwise.
    • This is very likely a problem with the USB cable. It's been well documented here on the forums. You should test different cables and ports. If necessary, you can contact our Tech Support for warranty assistance here and they should be able to help you out. Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

      • Submit a Warranty or parts Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the M-Audio Support Page. Select Warranty or Parts from the drop down menu. This will not require a support code.

      or

      • For faster support, call or email your nearest Support Office or International Distributor. Select your country to find the nearest office.

Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • Hey guys! I'm having the same problem here. I get the same msg from Pro Tools and the controller works for a couple of minutes and than stops again. Ths is driving me insane! I had the Alesis V61 and I Had the same problem with Pro Tools but it worked just fine ith Logic. (I have both on the same computer) This seems to be a problem with Pro Tools indeed because the Code 61 works perfectly fine with Logic. I'm on a Macbook Pro 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 and Pro Tools 12. Anyone had any luck figuring this out???

Yes, for me it was the USB cable that came with the keyboard. I actually heard back from m-audio that the supplied USB cables have a know defect. They offered to warranty replace it if I sent it back. It didn't make any sense to do that, so I just used a know good cable. Been great ever since.

  • I swapped USB cables which made annoying message "Pro tools is unable to communicate with HUI" stop popping up. The play, stop, rec ect. buttons are now working on my keyboard but no luck with the faders. Any one have any advice on how to make these faders work with writing volume automation? I'm using the CODE25 with Pro Tools 12 on OS X 10.11.2.
