Configuring Axiom 61 with Komplete

Hi,
I just got Komplete from Native Instruments. I can get it to play the many synths, with some basic configuring of soundcard settings and midi channel. But was hoping to get more out of it. One MAJOR thing Id like to achive is to be able (ones IN a synth.. Kontakt for example) to step thru the presets using the program change up/down buttons on the Axiom. This doesnt seem to work.
My keyboard is placed to the right of my workstation, so turning to click a tiny arrow to select the next sound is very time consuming.
Other things like getting the rotarys or sliders to operate specific things, I will surely discover (when I can find some kind of midi learn function) but the program change thing is most urgent.

Mark

PS: I dont know WHICH Axiom 61 i have, probably the first as it doesnt specify 1 2 3 etc, so ai selected all the list! :)

  • Hey Mark,

    Thanks for posting!

You most likely have a second generation Axiom so I'm going to roll with that. If you have a different model, the idea will be the same but the process will slightly vary - consult the documentation for your specific Axiom controller.

You can configure your controller to send increment/decrement program change messages that can be sent to your computer and ultimately be used to change programs in virtual instruments.

To configure a button to increment/decrement a Program Change:

    1. Select a button you want to use to send the control message.

    2. Press the Edit button.

    3. Press the Control Assign key. The LCD screen will read ASIGN and display the currently selected control (for example "F10"), and the current MIDI CC assignment (for example "154").

    4. Enter 156 using the number keys. This configures the button to increment the Program number.

    5. Press the Enter key.

    6. Press the Edit button.

    7. Press the Data 2 key. The LCD screen will read MIN and display the currently selected control (for example "F10"), and the current value (for example "64").

    8. Enter 0 using the number keys. This specifies the lowest Program number.

    9. Press the Enter key.

    10. Press the Edit button.

    11. Press the Data 3 key. The LCD screen will read MAX and display the currently selected control (for example "F10"), and the current value (for example "87").

    12. Enter 127 using the number keys. This specifies the highest Program number.

    13. Press the Enter key.

This will get you started but for more details, the complete process for assigning these controls can be found on page 16 of the Axiom user guide. You can download the user guide from this link under Keyboard Controllers:

    I hope this helps you!

  • THANKS!
Im not sure you completely understood me, but thanks for the link.
I found that my keyboard is this one... in the Legacy menu...
    https://storage101.ord1.clouddrive.co...

You instructions assume I am going to CHOOSE a button to configure for my incremental patch changing, (The only buttons I have are the ones below the sliders marked ZONE and GROUP, but dont know what that refers to).. but anyway...

No, I was merely meaning that I want the DEFAULT pgm change buttons to work in my DAW.
Im must be honest and say I have never used my keyboard for more than OMNI use.. just plug it in and do everything on the computer.

So STEP 1, how do I change programs using the numeric keypad? The display appears to show CCs not Programs... Do I select using the keypad THEN press an enter button? Is that RECALL?

STEP 2, how do i get that to actually WORK in the DAW? That it changes patches within a plugin?

STEP 3. And for auditioning patches, how do i get the Numerical Keypads + and - buttons to increment the patch.
(In the Axiom display, they APPEAR to do that. For the second that I press them the display reads P11 then P12 etc.. Is the Axiom ACTUALLY sending Prg 12 then? or do I have to confirm with a button?
