EX-P Express Pedal not communicating

hi,

I'm trying to use the EX-P to control dynamics in kontakt, but it gives me only two steps, 0 and 100%, nothing in the middle...

the side wheel is set to max, if I set it everywhere in the middle I get no midi signal from the pedal :-(

I'm using a maudio keystation so it's pretty weird to me

any help?

    Hi Thomas,

    Thanks for posting.

Run a test for me with a MIDI Monitor:

    Windows: MIDI-OX

Open MIDI-OX with all other programs closed. In the Options>MIDI Devices section, select your controller ports from the MIDI Input menu. Click OK.
Now MIDI-OX will simply list all incoming MIDI messages.

    Mac: MIDI Monitor

Open MIDI Monitor with all other programs closed. In the "Sources" section, check the boxes for your controller's ports.
Now MIDI Monitor will list all incoming MIDI Messages.

Just move the EX-P back and forth and watch the MIDI monitor. Does it list a stream of values when you move from 0-127? Or does it only send a value when it reaches the top or the bottom?

What should happen is you will see a constant stream of values from top to bottom, which would indicate that the pedal is communicating correctly. At that point, you'll want to look at what you are assigning the pedal to control and the way that it's set to respond. For this, I'd have to recommend contacting Native Instruments for the best advice.

Let me know how this goes.

  • hi Corey, thank you so much for the reply!

actually I found out that the problem is in the keystation61es having only the sustain input, thus accepting only on-off commmands :-/

so not a problem of the pedal at all, but my mistake

thanks anyway and sorry for the misunderstanding!
