Fader channel = mod wheel channel

Code 49 with Live 9 latest. I am setting my midi assignments and for some reason when I change the mod wheel channel it automatically changes the faders over to that channel as well, and vice-versa. This causes the mod wheel and F1 to share control. So I want the faders on a seperate channel from the mod wheel. I'm using the instructions on pages 43 & 84. This problem began recently so I know it's because of something I changed. So what are the default channels for mod wheel and faders? I'll try going back to that.

  • Hi Daniel,

    Thanks for posting!

The MIDI channel alone would not cause the faders and mod wheel to collide. It sounds like either the fader and mod wheel are sending the same control assignment and thus linking to the same control in the software (assuming that we're talking about something being MIDI learned in Ableton). in other words, maybe the fader is assigned to CC1 (normally reserved for Mod Wheel) and that CC was mapped to your fader in Ableton?

If you want the best way to test all of this is to open a MIDI Monitor and compare what everything is sending:

Using a MIDI Monitor to test your device

What's more common is that users will assign the wrong ports when setting up their Mackie Device which would cause faders to change pitch and pitch to adjust fader movements. For this it's just a matter of assigning the ports according to our guide:

Code Series - Setup in Ableton Live

Let me know if any of this helps!

  • Hi Corey thanks for the help. I installed MIDI-OX and that's a big help. I figured out what I was doing. I was trying to change the channel of specific controls on the keyboard using the rubber CHAN button instead of CHAN ASSIGN key.
