*Class Compliant
What does "class compliant" mean?
A class compliant device is one that does not require an extra driver from Akai Professional to connect to your *Windows computer, **Macintosh computer, or iOS device. A class compliant device uses drivers that are written by Microsoft or Apple, and come pre-installed on the computer.

*Windows (98SE and up) is required for class compliant support.
**Mac OS X and higher is required for class compliant support.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for posting!

A class-compliant device simply means it does not require additional drivers for use on Windows 98SE or higher and Mac OS X or higher. There are general use drivers built into these operating systems that certain products can use instead of requiring their own drivers. Usually this is for simpler midi keyboards and audio interfaces.

Because of the class-compliant drivers, the products that use these are usually safe with newer operating systems and thus can be supported on an OS like El Capitan as soon as it comes out.

Now, the Fast Track series is no longer supported by M-Audio. As you may be aware, M-Audio was once owned by Avid (Pro Tools) and was acquired by inMusic Brands in 2012. The following products were not included with this acquisition, and will continue to be marketed, sold, supported and serviced by Avid:

    • Fast Track USB
    • Fast Track
    • Fast Track Pro
    • Fast Track Ultra
    • Fast Track Ultra 8R
    • Fast Track C400
    • Fast Track C600
    • Mobilepre USB
    • Mobilepre

For support or service on the products above, please contact Avid through their support channels:

I'm not sure whether or not the Fast Track series is class-compliant, though I don't believe it is. Based on what I have seen so far, there has been some trouble with customers using these with OS X 10.11, so I would avoid updating if possible, but you'll have to discuss this with Avid for a definitive answer.

Hope this helps you find an answer!

    Hi!

I have the both fast track pro and fast track ultra cards and they say M-AUDIO.

I don't care if the mark was or wasn't acquired by inMusic Brands...I need a solution and until my cards say M-AUDIO you have to help me.
    • Hi,

Sorry you are having trouble with this.

Let me clarify for you. When the Fast Track series was developed, M-Audio was owned by a company called Avid, which you may know as the developer of Pro Tools. In 2012, Avid sold M-Audio to inMusicBrands (who you are currently speaking to) but chose to retain some of the product lines developed under their watch, most notably the Fast Track and Mobile Pre series. Avid retained all information, support and responsibility for these products

Because these lines were not sold with the rest of M-Audio, they are now technically Avid products and I unfortunately have zero information to help assist you. For that reason I recommend contacting Avid for proper support:

      Phone: 650-731-6400

      Hope this helps!

  • Let me give you some reality. Avid may never update these drivers, also if you think that only your Fast Track M audio or Avid are not working with El Capitan, think again. Your midi interface, may be dead, your version of the DAW may also not be supported. So, here is the only solution I found. I made a bootable USB disk with Mavericks OSX on it. I did not have Apples Airport so I have to go and purchase 64GB USB 3.0 drives and put all my most important files on them. In the process of erasing OSX10.11 you will wipe your drive clean. I re-installed as Mavericks (why) because my version of PTs would not load up on OSX10.10 Yosemite. So I went to OSX 10.9. reinstalled midi, audio, and Protools, as OSX10.9 then upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.5. All is working great!! When and if the drivers for OSX10.11 ever come then you can upgrade. Be prepared to check on your DAW and any midi devices also. Also if you have 3rd party plugins you will also have issues. good luck this is the only way to do this!!

  • The drivers for OS X 10.11 may never come for the Fast Track the unit is too old now. If you want to continue to use it get ready to reinstall Yosemite on your Apple computer. Make a bootable USB drive by going into the App store and download the OS to the USB stick. If you don't have Apple Time machine, get your self USB 3.0 drives this is were you will store your most important files as the entire drive will be wiped when you do the reinstall. I have done it and all is working great again, be aware that not only your audio device IE FTU, did not work on El Captian but if you go deeper your DAW, Midi interface probably won't work either. This is the only fix.
    Good luck
