I’m frustrated

firewire chipset profire 610

What are the specs of the firewire card I need to connect my Profire 610. I just got a Windows 10 system and I need to know what type of firewire card to put in my new computer. Does it have to be a TI chipset?

    Hey Gary,

    Thanks for posting!

The ProFire 610 is a legacy product so support is limited. That said, let's try to get you pointed in the right direction!

While I cannot recommend a specific FireWire card, there are a few specifications you will need to consider:

    • If the FireWire port on your card is 4-pin you will need to use the M-Audio power supply. Devices connected to a 4-pin FireWire port cannot be bus-powered

    • If the FireWire port is 6-pin you will not need to use the power supply. Generally speaking, 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire connections provide sufficient power. However, some 6-pin FireWire ports, like on PCMCIA/CardBus expansion cards, do not supply the required power, unless the expansion card has its own power supply.

    • You will need to install a driver for your computer to recognize the interface. This poses a problem because the last supported OS for the ProFire 610 was Windows 8. If possible, you would have to roll back your operating system.

    Hope this helps!
