Hello, I'm using M-Audio Profire 610. Please, when can you propose the driver to MAC OSX for EL CAPITAN? Thank for your answer ...

    Hi,

    Thanks for posting!

The Profire 2626 and Profire 610 are legacy products and will no longer be updated. The last driver released will support up to OS 10.10.1:

    Profire 610 - Mac OS 10.10 Driver

Before the release of El Capitan, M-Audio released an announcement with all of the products that would be updated for support on that OS. You can see that announcement here. Products not on that list are not planned for support.

Let me know if you have any questions.

i will NEVER get ahead bc of this tactic you implement! No I will not buy a new interface, just bc u wont update a perfectly good one, so you can make more money. I will have to quit doing what I love, I can not KEEP spending every extra cent I have on gear, marketing, branding, the list never ends! thanks for helping me accomplish my goals.

      Hi Michelle,

Sorry you are having trouble with this. I can assure this is not a "tactic" employed by the company. This is a reality that every music professional needs to consider at one point or another.

M-Audio discontinued the Profire series a few years ago now. There was one last driver released to assist with support on OSX 10.10 and afterwards the company announced that the products would receive no further updates. Then, before the release of El Capitan, the company, and myself here on the forum, made announcements to confirm products that would be considered for support on the new operating system. You can see that announcement here:

      M-Audio - El Capitan Support

Please note, that the Profire series is not listed here as a supported product on El Capitan.

No one is asking or telling you to buy new products. We don't want you to do that and I don't want to tell you or even suggest that you do that. I can only assume that your current Profire works perfectly, just not on that operating system. In fact, you could likely contact Apple right now and they could help you revert back and install the last OS and you'll be back up and running in no time.

You don't need to buy new products, just consider why you are updating to a new OS before you do and make sure to check that your products will be able to update with you. In most cases, especially with El Capitan, there should be no reason to update. El Capitan in particular did nothing to improve audio production or support (it even made it worse at first). Before updating, it's best to wait, gauge the response from other users and check the compatibility of your gear. But in the end: If it's not broken, don't fix it.

But what if you purchased a new computer and it already had the new OS? Good question! But same answer. A new computer will almost always come with the new OS or at least be advertised with a particular OS. If you check before hand, you should know whether your gear will be able to work with that computer. In Apple's case, I've even contacted them on several occasions to find out if they can revert a computer to an earlier OS before handing it off. They can and they will if you ask.

It all comes down to just knowing your gear and stepping carefully. We all do this. We all have to do this to keep up. It's just the reality of the modern music production, and really society in general (people replace their $600 phones every year or two!). Not everything will (or even can) be updated forever. Firewire itself is dead. The ports don't even come on new computers and it's officially not supported on Windows 10. Another reason to be careful of updating and this one's entirely out of M-Audio's control.

Anyway, I understand your frustration. I have a dying firewire interface, too. But technology will continue to progress regardless and this is just going to continue to happen. So to prevent it and hang on to your working gear, try to be wary of new updates and again, step carefully.
