I’m frustrated

I cannot hear what I am recording with the m track - vocals/ guitars

I am having an issue with my m-track output setup. I am using presonus pro. I only hear what I recorded during playbacks only. It won't let allow me to monitor during recording. The input is set to m track but the output will not allow me to set it back to built in output during the recording sessions. I am using a Mac desktop. The m-track works fine with garage band. Because it separate the options for input and output with the USB input to the desktop. Any Suggestions?

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting.

Any USB audio interfaces like the M-Track need to be both the input and output source, particularly with most audio recording program (like Presonus Studio One).

You'll want to connect your speakers and/or headphones to the outputs of the M-Track itself rather than your computer's built-in soundcard connection.

Also make sure your MONITOR MIX knob on the M-Track is set to half way or all the way over to the right (on USB).

  • Its a little more to it than what you're saying. I was informed that I had to go into my ultities on my Mac and create some type of output for it to play through Presonus software. I forgot what it was called and I don't have in front of me right now. But I printed the steps out for it. Thank you though.
    • Studio One handles all of it's own audio routing separately from the Mac's Audio/MIDI Setup or System Preferences menu. You only need to configure your M-Track as the input and output in Studio One. I'm sure of it.

If you were looking to share the built-in output of the Mac along with the M-Track , you would setup an "Aggregate Device" in the Audio/MIDI Setup menu. It sounds like that might be what you're referring to.

Just a warning, stacking multiple audio devices using this Aggregate Device function isn't always totally reliable, in Studio One or any audio recording software. So, you may experience odd audio artifacts (clicks/pops) or one of the two sound cards may dropout suddenly. Or, it may work perfectly. :)

  • That's what Presonus suggested that I do. But I bought an audiobox and mic from them in a bundle set since my USB mic was doing the same thing the m track m audio was doing and I should have it today. The m track works fine with garage band without making major setup changes in the Mac. We'll just use the m track for garage band only. Thanks again.
