Installer crashes on Windows 8.1 x64 (for Midiman Midisport 2x2)

If anyone could supply me with the unpacked driver files that would be great. I should be able to get them installed without an installer, the old-fashioned way. This is my first Windows 8 install which has been running for 18months and I don't really want to reinstall from scratch just yet...it took me ages to get everything how I want it. I'll do it with a new hard drive when I do, and...I'm waiting for the prices to come down!

I also have an Audiophile 2496 and Oxygen 49 but the drivers installed okay when it was on a clean installation of Windows. Now my system is loaded up with stuff and I've upgraded from Win8 to 8.1 and now something is crashing the installers for them too.

The installer runs The C++ Redistributable 2005 then the x64 version and after it's loading window closes the error message pops up:

Windows title: 'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library'
'Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Users\User\AppData\...

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.'

Which is terminating which? I'm not sure which application support team I should be contacting!

Perhaps I should uninstall/refresh my C++ runtimes?

I'm only trying out my old Midisport again for the first time in over 10 years because I'm not happy with the MIDI latency of the Audiophile 2496 (or maybe it's the Oxygen). I'm only using the MIDI ports of my Audiophile because the usb connection on my Oxygen49 is a bit loose/unstable so I'm using the MIDI outs from that to the Audiophile MIDI Input.

My Midiman Midisport 2x2 is a very old one which I got before the M-Audio brand name started. I doubt the hardware has changed at all so surely it should be compatible with all the latest drivers.

  • Hello Brian,

    Thanks for posting.

The latest drivers for the legacy Midiman/M-Audio MIDISPORT series (yellow/green or gray/black colored ones) supports up to Windows 8, but not 8.1 specifically.

I can't say for sure what is causing your symptoms or guarantee that we'll get it working, but here are some ideas:

-Right click installer icon and "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
-Right click installer and "Run As Administrator"
    -Re-download the installer (from above)
-Run a registry cleaner software, reset the computer, then try again. CCleaner is a free one:

    Hope this helps!

  • Yes! The "Troubleshoot Compatibility" worked! It tried in Windows 7 mode and it got past the crashing stage and installed stuff.

    Many thanks!

  • The latency/response is the same between the midisport and the audiophile midi inputs, so I suppose the delay I'm experiencing is just the soundcard audio latency...I've turned up the buffer to 512 samples and that gives it a delay of 11ms...which is too much, making recording or jamming along to music difficult to play in time. I may have to use my cheap Behringer usb audio interface while I use my midi controllers, which had a latency of about 2ms last time i tried it, but the audio quality isn't so good - less bass as if it's got a built-in filter cutting out low frequencies.

    Hi again,

    Here is my experience:

The CRASH REPORT never appeared this time and in the final snap you can see the drivers to the device installed when I connected the USB. Then the LED pulsates on the device as it is supposed to do! I also RAN the TROUBLESHOOTER as advised though I don't have/use CCleaner type tools (on my Win7 or Win8) as they caused issues with my Cubase.

Therefore I am assuming all has worked!?

    Thanks,

    Paul
