Issue with using the Code 49 linked between a sequencer and a synthesizer

I’m using my new Code 49 to control my Roland FA 08, which I tempo-sync to a separate sequencer. I’m confused about why the tempo-syncing does not work when using the Code 49 in the middle of this MIDI configuration (SEQUENCER-midi out ——> midi in-CODE 49-midi out ——> midi in-ROLAND FA). It does work when the sequencer is connected directly to the Roland’s MIDI-in, but not when going through the Code. The Code works great for controlling the Roland and I know both MIDI cables I’m using work fine. Shouldn't the Code be capable of being used in this way? Is there a setting I can change to make it work? Does this mean the Code’s MIDI-in port is faulty? I can’t find anything in the manual that helps. Thanks for any help.

    Code's MIDI-In port doesn't work as "MIDI Thru" - I mean: any incoming MIDI messages on "MIDI-IN" port are never relayed to "MIDI-OUT" port, anyway, this is normal!

    You'll must redesign like this:

    if you're using hardware sequencer:
    CODE "midi-out" --> "midi-in" SEQUENCER "midi-thru" --> "midi-in" ROLAND FA

    if you're using software sequencer (such DAW):
    CODE "midi-out" --> "midi-in" SEQUENCER "midi-thru/-out" --> "midi-in" ROLAND FA
    (in this case, probably you'll must use "MIDI-routing" features from your software).

    But what's your sequencer? (software? if hardware: brand/model?)

    Important: MIDI clock must be provided by your sequencer, and only by your sequencer (hardware or software) to avoid sync/tempo issues!

    Don't send MIDI messages to your Code, it's useless, except to write (reprogram) a Code's preset (via SysEx) or by using Preset Editor (but it uses another MIDI port - MIDIIN4/MIDIOUT4 via USB).

  • Hey averypalmer,

    Thanks for posting!

    As Dominique mentioned, the Code will not act as a MIDI thru. It is possible to send MIDI to your computer and have your DAW send MIDI back out to another device but it must pass through the computer first.

    I hope this helps!

    Thank you for your assistance Dominique!
