Keystation MK-32 not working on left USB Port MacbookPro Retina

Hey,

I just got a new Macbook Pro Retina and I connected my Keystation MK-32 to it.
After playing a while in Logic or Live the keystation stops working out of nowhere. It stops sending Midi-Signals.

It is working on the right USB Port without any Problems though. I handed in my Macbook and got a replacement because they thought the USB Port is broken.

But now after 2 days i have the same exact problem with my replacement Macbook Pro too. So it can't be a broken left USB Port anymore I guess.

Did anybody of you guys had the same weird problem and maybe a solution?

Best Regards
Lenny

  • Hello Lenny,

    Thanks for posting.

This is likely due to insufficient power provided by the left side ports (all laptops have ports with different "priority" levels). Or, the USB ports are being shut off or temporarily interrupted by the Mac's Energy Saver settings (in the System Preferences).

If the Keystation Mini 32 is still working in the right side USB port, we can conclude the keyboard itself is likely okay.

  • Hello Dan,

    Thanks for your answer!
I didn't know that about the USB Ports! I will now just run the keyboard through a powered USB Hub - like this is always works! Im glad it is not broken. I just wanted to make sure that the keyboard and the macbook both aren't broken. I thought maybe it could be a software problem. If there's any news about this problem id be happy to hear about it.

    Best regards
    Lenny
