Hello,
i just bought M-Audio Hammer 88 to have a real piano feel. Now (after i have it for some time) i found out sustenuto function on pianos and i would really love to play it. Please, does anyone know how/if to play sustenuto on M-Audio Hammer? There is Sustain pedal inpout, FS2 (soft pedal) and Extension input. I would rather have sustenuto than soft.
Thank you!!!

Hi, I've downloaded the Editor (although I'm still eagerly awaiting for my hammer-88 to arrive at local South Africa dealer) I can see that you can also set cc64 (sustain) or cc66 (sostenuto) to the EXPression pedal input and I guess or rather hope this input to have 0-127 range values, so I'm pretty sure you can do it.
You might need to obtain a half-damper pedal to use on the EXP input like the Roland Half Damper Pedal DP-10 (stereo 1/4" jack plug at end). I will be borrowing one to try out first before I purchase one so I can't say for sure if this will work. I recon the VSTi need to support it as well, I will be using mine with Pianoteq 6. -

Hey Kryštof,
Thanks for posting!
As Andre mentioned, you can use the Hammer's editor software to change the way the two footswitch inputs and expression inputs behave. By sending the right type of MIDI CC message from the pedals (sustain, sostenuto, etc.) you should be able to affect your instrument plugins and MIDI devices with that specific function.
You can download the Hammer 88's editor software from the following links:
M-Audio Hammer 88 Preset Editor - Windows
M-Audio Hammer 88 Preset Editor - Mac
I hope that's helpful!
Thank you for helping out, Andre! -

Hello,
thank you very much both of you!!!! Thats just awesome. Can you believe? I just retrieve Roland RPU-3, because it didnt worked. Damn.
Nevermind, i will try in in a store with the preset editor you mentioned. Thank you really much guys - and Andre - the Hammer88 is a really great piece of piano -> stiffer, but you are prepared to play grand piano because your fingers get stronger!
Thank you very much both of you!- view 4 more comments

Exactly! :D I think the 127 range would be nice if i would use it for some effects or whatever presets from my Logic Pro X or any audio edditing software that works with midi. But i am only interested about the pure piano feel and man, that really is the Hammer88 giving me. Thank for your help again!

Pleasure, yes I can imagine the purpose for very precise pieces, but on-off should suffice.

Hello,
so i spent 2 hours in music story trying the rpu3 and plaing with the preset editor. And i have a bad news. Not only the rpu3 is not working (at all - it is not recieving any cc signals to the m-audio) but it is not even working with my old sustain pedal. So i have bought STUDIOLOGIC VFP2/15 2TS and it is working with the sustain cc64, but not with the sostenuto 66. More in screenshot. Please, am i doing anything wrong?

Yes - sorry for bad screenshot. When it didnt worked out, i tried another cc's. But - i found out, that it works - but very strangly: normally when you should just press it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1cVB... it works streight away. Here it works like that: you press notes and (instead of a press) the sostenuto works after you release the sostenuto (so you have to basically "click" it by foot) not hold it and release it whenever you want. The rest of the cc's (inc and dec) do nothing.

Ok, so instead of using on Sustain port, try on EXP and set current Sustain input to ie. cc16 General Purpose, obviously plug that cable in on EXP

That tells me the midi information now being submitted is correct but the VSTi does not know what to do with it, please try the trial of pianoteq6 standalone, that VSTi support all pedal functions. https://www.pianoteq.com/try

I'm just adding this good read in here as well... https://www.forum-pianoteq.com/viewto... but just for reference purpose

Hello - after a bloodlosing trip i finally figure it out. I tried to swap the min and max values from 0 - 127 into 127 - 0 and now it works how it should! When you hold the sostenuto value, you get the result, exactly like on a grand.
Jesus!
Thank you for your time
PS: i tried the pianoteq and it works the same as in my Logic Pro X.
Have a nice day!

Cool man, just glad it's now working out, can't wait for mine to arrive next week. Someone always needs to go through the painful blood-losing trip as you mentioned, for others to gain freely ;)
