Looking for years for answer to this one question Transport and Axiom61 (1) Air ignite

Can you or can you not.......... get the Transport buttons to work for Air Ignite with Axiom 61 MK 1 (first version made before Air bought the company)

if it is possible can someone please write down how to do it or provide a link to a preset file or something? I have been looking for this answer literally for years and so appreciate any help to get these transport controls working.

  • For example:

On the Axiom 61 MK 1 old version:
this midi output is for turning each of the 8 ENC rotary controls left to right top to bottom one at a time and then pressing the transport buttons left to right one at a time. The transport button presses start after the orange arrow.

Now as comparison, The Axiom 25 mk II ( newer model) which I also have)
Here is the Midi CC output.
Once again encoders left to right and then transport buttons left to right

again below the orange line is where pressing the transport controls starts. Left to Rigth. but this time There are 2 output messages for each button press not 1 like what came from the older axiom.
the Axiom 25 Mark II shows transport control messages in pairs while the older Axiom only shows single lines when you press the buttons
that's why I needed a second screen shot to fit it all in.
    .

I would love to know if you can re-create the midi messages from the new Axiom 25 encoders and transport in the old Axiom 61 to control Air Ignite from there .

I don't know enough about midi code to understand what these screen shots mean, I just can see the big difference.

If anyone out there can show me how to get these controls to work, especially the transports then I wouldn't need two. hefty controllers on my work area all the time. And Air Ignite is my absolute favorite program for getting all my music compositional ideas down, all my musical pieces start with that software which is awesome for it's simplicity and workflow. That's why getting this to work would be such a god-send for me :)

    Thanks!

  • Hey Ferenc,

    Thanks for posting!

The original Axiom series controllers can be used to input note and control data into Ignite but they will not control Ignite's transport or be mapped to transport controls.

Connecting a controller that is supported for using Ignite's transport (like the second generation of Axiom controllers) will show a graphical representation for that controller in the software. For example, in the image below, I've connected an Axiom 25 (Gen 2) to a computer running Ignite and Ignite 'looks' like an Axiom:

Controllers that are supported for using Ignite's transport will automatically map to the controls shown in the graphical interface.

I hope that's helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions!

  • Hi thank you for replying,

yes I still have a couple of questions to clarify if you don't mind.

I do have an axiom 25 second version which does automatically map all the controls.
so I understand what you are referring to above.

My question (so that I save alot of time trying) is this:

Q 1: Is Air Ignite hard coded to only accept control messages for rotary and transport from authorized boards?

In other words, is it a fact that Air Ignite is not "listening" to any CC for rotary control regardless of what cc channel is coming in if it is not an approved controller connected and in focus?

So I'm asking that if I had my old Axiom 61 connected and I try every single CC control channel there is, and, try every single MMC, NONE of them would budge the air ignite rotary controls or transport because Air Ignite DISABLES these controls unless the focus is on an approved keyboard?

If that is the case that would mean that Air Ignite is not accepting default cc input as a rule and will only respond to approved controllers with custom default mappings hard wired only for approved controllers.
    .
If this is the case then it would be good to know because I can just stop trying. :)

My dilemma is that I enjoy the control I get from my Axiom 25 II
but I need the 61 keys of my old Axiom (first genereration) to play 2 handed.

Ignite cannot have focus on two controllers simultaneously so I think there is absolutely no way then based on the above to get rotary and transport working if you have . .

Now this next question is very important to me because I really like the workflow on Air Ignite. :

If a person buys the **stand alone Air Ignite software** which I believe is version 1.4, not the free version that comes with controllers:
does the paid software version have the ability to learn ALL controllers?

I mean after all, in this case you paid for the software and learning controllers is a basic feature in all paid DAW applications.

in that case it would seem to be a bit of a conflict to have paid software in which only certain controllers work because, if you then bought an Air controller for that purpose, you would have gotten the free software anyway and now you have a disadvantage because the person who just bought the keyboard in the first place paid less than you for essentially the same thing.

So I don't have a way of finding the answer to this question on the internet, but

Q2: if you buy the paid version of air ignite as a stand alone DAW does it have the ability to learn ANY controller for rotary and transport control messages? and that would of course be different than what the free version does now.

    thank you very much!

    Ferenc

  • oh and one more thing, Axiom 1 DOES show a graphical representation just like the gen 2 picture you provided above. that's why I am needing to confirm if you can or cannot map the other controls. it even writes the name of it correctly on the controllers list on the top right corner of the software view.
