m audio code 61 and yamaha motif xs8 trouble zoning

Im trying to use my code 61 to control my motif xs8. Specifically i want to zone/layer sounds from my motif (i.e. have strings and horns together on my code 61). My issue is everytime i hit the zone button and try switching through the zones (1-4), instead of being able to toggle through each zone, it automatically changes the sounds on my motif(it will change all my sounds to piano)... I already set each zone to control a different midi channel but i cant seem to figure out what other setting i have to change in order to simply zone/layer my sounds?? anyone have any advice on what i can be doing wrong? i hope i explained myself accordingly.

  • Hey Julio,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble. It sounds like you need to assign the specific note range for each Zone. To do this:

    1. Press and hold Zone for 1 second to enter Zone Edit Mode. The active Zone Buttons 1–4 will flash.

    2. Press one of Zone Buttons 1–4 to edit that zone. The display will show the zone’s current lowest and highest keys (e.g., C 1.C 5 or Bb2.Eb4).

    3. Press the lowest key you want to assign to the zone, and then press the highest key you want to assign to the zone.

    4. Press Zone to exit Zone Edit Mode.

Try this and let me know how it goes!

  • This doesn’t solve my issue... the zone buttons are changing my programs on my motif... i figured it out anywhow. I simply disabled the midi program change from my motif. But thank you!
