M-Audio M-Track 2x2 C-Series stopped working on MacBook

I got a M-Audio M-Track 2x2 C-Series interface that I've been connecting my mic to for recording vocals in Ableton. Today while I was recording I notice that there was a lot of distortion. Even when I just hit record and let it record the room noise there was an unusual amount of noise which I noticed was distortion being created internally because none of that noise was in the actual environment. At some point, I tried to unplug the interface and reconnect it but then after that Ableton would not recognize the interface at all. Same thing when I switched to Garageband. The power lights come on but the lights on the right for the inputs do not light up. In case it helps I connect my mic to input 1. And I use a MacBook with OSX 10.13.5.

Any ideas?

  • Hey Yaw,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having some trouble with that! The M-Track 2X2 is a class compliant USB device with Mac operating systems so it will use your computer's Core Audio drivers in order to connect. Have you tried connecting any other audio devices to your computer that use Core Audio and do you experience similar behavior?

If you are having trouble connecting the M-Track, let's testing its connection to the computer. Double check that the M-Track is connected properly - when connecting the USB-C end of the cable at the back of the M-Track, it will click slightly when it is seated properly. Try connecting the M-Track with a different USB cable, with different USB ports on your computer, and with a different computer to see if you can reproduce the same behavior. Be sure to connect directly to the computer via USB and avoid using any USB hubs or adapters.

If you try the steps listed above and you are still unable to use the interface, this sounds like it may be hardware related. Warranty and non-warranty claims cannot be handled here on the forum but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the M-Audio Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu. This will not require a support code.

    or

    • For faster support, call or email your nearest Support Office or International Distributor. Select your country to find the nearest office.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.
