M-Audio M-Track Crackling on initial playback and when clicking/typing

I am currently using the M-Audio M-Track 2x2, running into Rokit5 monitors, for general playback - Youtube, for example. I find that whenever I first play a video, there is lot's of crackling at the beginning, like the audio is adjusting. It stops, the longer playback goes on for.

I have a Ryzen 2700x processor with 16GB of DDR4 3000-pin RAM so don't think it should be an issue.

I have the newest driver and also have the knob in between USB and Direct.

  • Hey DJ,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having some trouble with that! If you are hearing some audio artifacts during playback, it sounds like the M-Track's audio buffer size setting needs to be adjusted. What you are experiencing during playback is not uncommon with buffer sizes of lower values.

When you install the M-Track's driver, its control panel application is also installed. This application is used to adjust the driver settings when you are using the M-Track as your system's audio output device.

Search your computer for 'M-Track' and the M-Audio M-Track 2X2 Control Panel application will appear. Open this application and use the slider to adjust the Preferred Buffer Size. I would recommend raising this value incrementally until performance improves rather than just turning it up all the way as turning it up too much can result in latency (a delay) in the audio signal. The ideal buffer value for your computer will be able to provide clear playback with the least amount of latency possible. You will not need to adjust the sample rate setting in the control panel application.

    I hope that helps you!
