M-Track 2x2 single channel USB input option

Ability to output single track with M-Audio M-Track 2x2 rather than stereo.

The 2x2 has 2 mono source inputs, which output to the PC via a stereo signal with 1 mono source on the left, and one on the right. When used in a DAW where they can be separated, however when the interface is used for other purposes (Such as recording over game play in my case), because Windows recognises a stereo input, my recording then have the mic panned entirely to the left ear.

It would be extremely useful for users who use this device for the mic input only to either be able to separate the inputs to 2 separate devices in the Windows settings, or be able to set the device settings to 1 channel (I know this is possible in other interfaces with the same inputs as the 2x2, and it just makes the mic channel a mono input, which would be very nice)

Thank you

  • Hey Dinny,

    Thanks for posting!

I can certainly understand why separating the inputs would be useful in that situation. I'll be happy to submit this as a feature request for consideration in a future update for the M-Track 2X2. In the meantime, I would recommend checking the software you are using to record and see if you can configure a mono track. I have tested the M-Track 2X2 in Audacity with both stereo and mono tracks and could reproduce what you are describing regarding the stereo track but the mono track's audio was centered.

    Thank you for your feedback!

  • Hi, could I get any idea if this has been submitted and/or if it's on it's way (I understand that these things cannot be done instantly, just some information and insight would be nice). I am still having to use 3rd Party software to successfully use the product, which is not ideal, and I may have to purchase a different Interface.

    Thanks
    • Hello Dinny,

Thanks for getting in touch again! I apologize but I do not have a status
update regarding this inquiry. I did submit this as a feature request when you originally submitted the inquiry and I can forward any additional information you would like to relay to the development team. While I am happy to forward this information for you, just be aware that I cannot guarantee that features and functionality submitted by users will ultimately make it into a future update.

Please let me know if you would like to submit any additional information or if you have any questions.

  • Hi, sorry I did not respond, I did not receive an email notification.

Simply I just wish for a single channel option in the windows (1)

This would allow you to use just the mic input as a mono source for those using the interface outside of a DAW enviroment.

Imo this is a large oversight and something that I know is not an issue with other interfaces that have the exact same IO, as my friend has one and is able to select a single channel option. I understand not every feature users request can be implemented, however I know am I not the only user with the issue after reading the forums (2).

While the 2x2 is a great piece of kit for someone working inside a DAW, the software limitations mean it can be unusable for some others. I am currently using a virtual solution to get around this, which defeats the purpose of having a high quality interface if I am to run it through software anyway.

I would appreciate if you forward these details to whoever requires them, and find out if what I speak of is actually possible within the bounds of the 2x2's drivers, as I would like to get a final solution to the problem as soon as possible.

    Thanks a lot,
    Dinny

  • This is a year old topic, but I am having the same issue. Has there been any update to this issue? What 3rd party virtual software are did you use to make your mic work?

  • I used a software called VoiceMeter. It was slightly irritating as I had to have it launch on boot all the time, and use the mixer output as my default audio, however it allowed me to squash the signal to mono easily. The other downside is that it added a few ms delay, which wasn't very noticeable but still irritating.

    https://www.vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/

    The setup I had was

M-Track Source > VoiceMeter Hardware In 1 > Squash to Mono > VoiceMeter Digital Output
Then use the digital output as you would your mic

  • Voice Meeter works for me too. I would prefer if M-Audio would update their driver to support 1 Channel in Windows, so we wouldn't need to route audio via a 3rd party product.
