I’m frustrated

M Track 2x2 white noise

When my M Track 2x2 is powered on it produces a very noticeable white noise. It can clearly be heard when the USB/Direct knob is turned to Direct. When recording, the noise gets recorded as well.

It does this on my mac mini running High Sierra and my PC running Windows 10. No audio cables are crossing with power cables. The unit is about one year old and I bought it new.

Any ideas? Please advise. Thank you!

    Thanks for posting!

    White noise is an inherent side effect of any interface's noise floor. This is the sum of electrical noise from internal components. You will find this become more noticeable when you are directly monitoring from the interface as you are adding gain to the input signal and the noise floor. This becomes more apparent when the interface inputs are not terminated because you are only amplifying static. Let's take a look at a few things:

    • Do you find the noise level reduce when you plug in a mic or line level source?
    • What audio sources and cables are you using (XLR, TS or TRS)?

    • Where are your channel Input Gains and Monitor Gain set?

    • Are you using TS or TRS cables to send signal to your monitors?

    If you find that you are battling white noise consistently even with proper gain staging techniques, it's possible that there is an issue with the preamp. In which case, I recommend getting in touch with our support team for further action. Warranty and non-warranty claims cannot be handled here on the forum but I can point you in the right direction!
