M Track 2X2M Distorted sound + Clicking sound

Hi, just received my M Track 2X2M connected it with USB-C (cable came in the package) and i only had problems since i connecting it.
sometimes i hear distorted sound (like bitcrusher)
sometimes i hear clicks with no music at all (sounds like buffer problems)
it happens on my DAW (cubase) and on mp3s & wav files etc..
my pc is a new intel NUC kyki7 16GB DDR4 + 500GB NVMe SSD by Samsung
So i guess my pc isn't the issue.
my pc runs on win10 installed everything 1 week ago.

i cant work like this :( thinking about returning the product if i wont resolve this.

  • I have the same problem friend, clicking and audio dropouts on my my DAW ableton, I also run windows 10, I am thinking it's bad drivers. and even if it isn't musicians shouldn't have to troubleshoot in the magnitude needed to "possibly" fix the problem.

    You also have a stronger computer than mine, which should have no problem playing back music
    • Just had a blue screen crash... when i disconnect the M Track 2x2M everything seems fine.
      I used a debugger on the DMP file from the crash and i saw the MTrack2x2M.sys or something like that and alot of other stuff i dont understand.
      So i guess its a driver problem.
      The bigger problem is that no one here at M Audio is willing to admit that there is a problem.
      I searched the whole forum for answers and couldnt find a proper one.

      Big dissappointment.

  • Hi guys,

    We haven't experienced any issues like this in our driver testing and I have been unable to recreate it myself. The more info you can provide the better:

    - Full system specs
    - Other gear connected (USB or to M-Track, also test without other gear connected)
    - USB 2 or 3? Test both.
    - Using USB-C ports?
    - Have you tested different USB cables?

    If you have any videos or audio examples that would be very helpful.

    I say this a lot here, but I need to confirm that you have the exact driver installed for your model. Please uninstall all drivers and use the guide below to download the latest driver for your model:

    Finding the Right Driver for Your M-Track

    BSOD's are not necessarily caused by drivers and are more often a symptom of something else. In this case the device could have just been the trigger. Can you provide more info about this crash? Is this a store bought computer or did you assemble it, upgrade components, etc?

    This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled M-audio 2x2 M clicking.

    Hey forum

    I recently posted about another clicking issue, but I fixed that, now there's another one far more elusive.

    I have gone back and forth a LOT between my two soudcards today, and they both start clicking when I push the CPU, However the 2x2M also clicks at random with CPU loads lower than my other soundcard. I have an audio example below to show what I mean. the clicking also has no consistency to it, it won't alway click during the same part of the playback, and sometimes it won't click at all

    The m-audio soundcard will also make a loud sitortion sound when I playback a project while I play music from any other audio source (i.e youtube, facebook, windows media player) while my old soundcard can handle this fine. In general the m-audio soundcard seems very unstable

    The audio will not click if I switch to the absolute highest buffer size (4096) but that is an unacceptable buffersize for a modern DAC (my old makes no clicking/distortion at 256). furthermore there is no more CPU load when I switch to lower buffer sizes, in a matter of fact under load, the soundcard handles playback better at lower buffer sizes.

    I have tried
    * uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, the right drivers
    * using all the usb prots on my computer (12 in total)
    * (DPC Latency checking) Disabling conflicting devices in device monitor
    * Reinstalling windows
    * Latency monitor (high pagefault, but does not coincide with audio clicking)
    * switching buffer size (introduces more clickign during actual CPU load)
    * testing out different DAW (FL studio)
    * switching windows power plan

    I have probably done more which I cannot remember but none has fixed the problem obviously.

    here are my system specs:

    AMD FX 8120 CPU
    NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 960
    8 GB RAM
    WINDOWS 10 64bit
    120 GB SSD (ableton isntalled here)
    2TB HDD

    ableton 9.7.1

    Could it be that your soundcard just doesn't play that well with AMD cpu's?

    on something positive however I am very impressed with the pre amps you have, they create good results with my mic.

    I hope I can get some help from employees or from customer support, I wanted to send a ticket, but I have not gotten any support code for some reason

  • Hi everybody.

    I had the same issues and was able to solve it using another driver.
    You can try it if you're still having problems with your 2x2M.
    See for my comment on this thread:
    http://community.m-audio.com/m-audio/...
    If needed, I can provide more details and help you try this solution out.

  • I spoke with Ara (spelling?) in tech support this morning who did make an interesting point that if my system did not see the driver as signed although it is, perhaps there were some updates I was missing. I have installed a few KB's and rollups post-SP1, but I have been on the hamster wheel too long to just let my system automatically update or blindly install anything willy-nilly. You can try with Windows 8.1 OS version . If you do not want to change your current operating system then delete your old driver and cleanup Driver c . After you can try your new driver , if you facing again problem then try this link : http://onedaytop.com/technology/

  • Same here! When the DAW playback a project with the asio driver, impossible to play something in the background. For example something from the browser, youtube, or any desktop app like media player, because the brutal distorted crackling, clipping noise. Its clear to me this device can't handle asio, and directsound sources at the same time. It's a poor design the device itself or faulty driver, maybe both. Direct monitoring knob useless in this case. Full left or turning back a little does nothing. M-audio please stop the generic responses and fix this device. But maybe thats not possible with drivers. Anyway i'm going for focusrite, because i can't use this device for anything for my needs. I bought this because looked so much better than focusrite scarlett for me. Shame.

  • there is a thing called usb selective suspend , cpu core parking and frequency downscaling windows saves power by that even though you are on AC -.-
    always be on high performance power plan but yea they have bad programmers or are lazy make a good code , mine died 5 days before end of warranty had it replaced they said it's the motherboard lol which is whole card...what a crappy product it can't survive 365 days

    After almost 2 years, turns out the distortion comes from having the usb\direct nob turned all the way left. If you leave the nob at about 9 o'clock and your PC audio at 80% it's works with no issues

    * Windows 10 Pro - updated
    * Intel i7-6500U 2.50 - 64bit
    * device manager has no problems
    * most updated drivers

    - Other gear connected (USB or to M-Track, also test without other gear connected)
    I only have a DJM750 connected to the audio interface

    - USB 2 or 3? Test both
    * My notebook only has USB3 ports

    - Using USB-C ports?
    No

    - Have you tested different USB cables?
    Yes

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    I have the same problem as everyone. It's happening in all my recordings, more as of recent.

    I'm uploading some images from Adobe Audition so you can have an idea of whats going on while recording. Also, I'm adding a link of one of my recordings as a sample.

    Some of the instances the clipping is not as pronounced, but some others you can really detect it. Sounds horrible.
