Although Linux users are still a small group compared to Windows and Mac users, this number is increasing and anyway I think you should consider these people that normally go deep on the search of good products to buy and that are linux compatible. I purchased recently this m-track quad in hope of using it on ubuntu, but until now I'm kind frustrated.
I'm writing this post in expectation that you consider developing drivers not only for the m-track quad but for the other products too.
Thank you for this space.

Why not just release the source code for your current drivers and let the community write one for linux? You're selling hardware, not software, so releasing the code can do nothing but bring more people to your product.
-
Hmm. Got one here for testing - instead of a C400, tried it - doesn't work. Going back :(
Pleeease, make sure you test and deliver Linux compliant products! -

1Hello All,
Thanks for posting and for the feedback!
As I'm sure you know, there aren't a great variety of audio interfaces that officially support Linux. However, I'd be happy to submit a feature request on both your behalf to the M-Audio team for Linux support.
Thanks again!-
Thanks Dan for answer, we are hopping soon M-audio track quad works for linux

Hi Dan,
Regarding your four year old comment for issuing a feature request for Linux support.
I wonder if you guys are in a position to reconsider/act given the number of very unhappy users who are leaving windows10 because of forced updates and the increasingly intrusive nature of windows ( telemetry and privacy issues ).
Just search online for "stop windows10 updates" if you want to get a feel for the issues people are starting to face.
My day job for 20 years was a senior software engineer - I have been on windows all my working life and I am also the proud owner of an M-audio M-track plus which greatly extends my saxophone practise and jam sessions. However I have had enough of Windows10, I cannot stand it any longer - they break my apps and settings every update - I have migrated to linux ubuntu.
Is it time for M-audio to take an interest in the current bad mood circulating amongst a significant fraction of more expert windows users - people who use their machine for more than facebook and social - people like your customers who probably have other specialist hardware and software that they run.
Sure windows10 works fine if you just want the standard MS apps but people who have to run other more specialist stuff are starting to have issues with Windows10 particularly the forced updates.
I think linux is going to become more important to you, why not be pre-emptive and make yourselves linux friendly now so that you are prepared for increasing numbers of windows10 users who like me decide they just do not want to use MS anymore?
Personally with the attitude coming from MS these days and the considerable improvements to the user friendliness of ubuntu and other favours of linux I think that more and more people will be persuaded to leave.
I leave you with a link to a thread on an MS forum where users are expressing their feelings about win10. Its worth taking a look to see how people are expressing their feelings - surely linux is going to see an increased uptake.

Hello Dan! Thank you for your response.
I know that there aren't much Linux support by several manufacturers and that's why I'm asking you to consider having it. Because I think it would be good both for the Linux users as for M-Audio also. Therefore I thank you for submitting our request to the M-Audio team.-
My pleasure to help!

I am trying to figure out how to use my newly purchased m-audio m-track quad in a linux mint environment. So far I have not figured out how to make it operate.
`lsusb` shows "Bus 010 Device 008: ID 0763:4002 Midiman" -

Have you tried installing ALSA? Generally by default, Pulse tends to be the audio interface. ALSA has implements of M-Audio written in to parts of the code, so perhaps its worth a shot. I don't own an M-Track, but I was researching it before I made a purchase.

Hello Matthew.
I'm using UbuntuStudio 14.04 and as I've read, Ubuntu runs alsa to communicate with the hardware and pulseaudio on top of alsa, and when I run alsamixer or aplay -l they don't show my m-track quad, and on QJackCtl setting page the setting is to use the alsa driver, but the m-track quad isn't shown at the interfaces list.
However when I run lsusb it appears on the list.
If you have an example of configuration, it'd be nice.
Thank you! -
-
I fully updated a gentoo linux system running 3.16.5 kernel, `lsusb` shows 0763:4002 Midiman device, but `aplay -l` and `arecord -l` do not show any additional devices. alsamixer -c # (1,2,3) also do not show any audio devices for the usb M-Audio M-Track Quad device. It seems that the device is nonoperable in linux environment. I shall return it and maybe get a Presonus 44VSL or other out-of-the-box linux-compatible pro audio interface.

You do have drivers for Mac.
Why not have drivers for Linux?
We'll take our sound cards unused.
The Linux community has a considerable number of users. -
-
Good afternoon!
Dan, as you can see, people are trying to use your products.
Please, you and M-Audio as a whole, help us. I'm sure it'll be good for both sides.
Thank you! -
-
Hi there,
I'm testing your product on a Linux system too & I'm pretty sad to see that it doesn't work at all.
I hope your feature request will lead to a Linux support. All USB devices that are standards compliant will work on Linux and others systems... Why don't you use standards ?
Have a nice day. -

So Dan, as you see, there are demanding for drivers for linux, why don't you start 2015 surprising us all by delivering the drivers we need.
Thank you! -

Hi all,
I just received my M-Track Quad (my first ever usb audio interface) and I'm experiencing the same issue.
I can see the card in the dmesg and syslog outputs but it's not recognized with aplay and lsusb commands.
So I add my vote to the Linux community and hope M-Audio teams will do their best to provide us linux support quickly.
Thank you! -
-
I'm going to persue other options for my needs. I have used the M-Track in the past, but as the platform which I am creating uses only Linux; I'm afraid the waiting game has beaten me.

I'm a regular customer. I bought this M-track Quad and not only there are no Linux drivers available but I spent a whole day trying to install it in Windows 7. We're a lot of Linux users here that want to use your products and we can't. Shame on you.
-
-
Dan, you could try to help everyone! How many Linux users will you need this forum to develop these drivers?
We are disappointed with the M-Audio. -
-
Please we really need Drivers for Linux. Many radios are waiting for that.
-

Hi Dan,
Has the feature request you adressed been accepted by the m-audio team? Linux support has been for me a purchase argument and since fast track was working I thought it would be the same for the quad, though I know it's not specified.
Could you communicate us an estimated delivery date?
You will have the trust of numbers of prospects and customers if you help people making the avid devices working on their configuration.
Thanks,
Julien -

Good afternoon Dan!
Please answer our request, or at least tell us that not will be done. In that way we can forget totally about M-Audio products.
It isn't what we want, as for myself, I really intend to use my M-Track Quad on my Ubuntu Studio. I hope that I didn't spend my money and my time in vain.
If itś not possible for the people at M-Audio to do it, I think you could contact the free software and open source community to do it for you.
But I think you should put some effort into it, and please think of the Linux community as good customers too. As I said in another post, we all could profit from that.
I would be glad if you say something to us.
Thank you very much!-
I agree. I tire of even having this thread notify me of updates. Let us know there is no future for Linux support, or let us know there is work done toward a working product. Windows, especially after 8, is not even an option for me. The little touch screen work space is cute, but for those who want to actually get work done: its a joke. Linux has more stability, more speed, and higher security.

Hi,
I have updated from an old m-audio fast track totally working in Linux to a M-Track Quad and I'm so frustrated seeing that it doesn't work at all.
Please, develop this driver for linux users! -
-
My previously working M-Audio Fast Track Ultra (now dead flashing led thing) did work on all my linux system at home. I was thinking on buying a Quad interface, but it doesn't work on linux? Really? What is the alternative?

I got tired of this... here are some *stable* linux audio devices. This is based on what various people report, and don't always include the kernel version. I have not verified any of these.
Focusrite - Saffire PRO 24
Cakewalk - UA-101 (Alsa 1.0.22)
Alesis - iO4 (tested under Ubuntu 9.04)
Focusrite - Saffire Pro 40
presonus - 1818VSL
Behringer - BCD3000 (USB 1.1)
Focusrite - Scarlett 2i2 (Full Alsa support)
ART - USB Mix (Ubuntu 13.10-15.04)
Native Instruments - Komplete Audio 6 (Alsa) -

Why not just release the source code for your current drivers and let the community write one for linux? You're selling hardware, not software, so releasing the code can do nothing but bring more people to your product.

It seems that a refund is the only option here.

I just sold my M-Audio without even beeing able to use it! This is the way M-Audio deals with their clients? I'm talking out everybody of buying your stuff, even Mac and Window users.

Every ... that's every super computer on the planet is Linux. The space station is Linux. The vast majority of servers are Linux because it is so superior to Windows and Apple. It's no good for gamers because not enough people make games for it But music is a huge part of Linux. I'm going to try my keystaion 49 on LMMS in a moment.

I use Linux Mint 18.1. Sadly I have to have a partitioned hard drive so I can use Windows 7 too. Windows is no where near as stable as Linux and the way updates are downloaded configured installed restarting the system etc makes me wonder how anyone gets any work done!

Linux Drivers PLEASE! I need to leave windows in the dust, it just [fill in the blanks]

There is a growing albeit relatively small community working with audio production in Linux. It would grow a lot faster if there were support for external i/o devices.
Times change. The graphics and video industry has moved from Mac to Windows. The audio industry is currently in a similar move.
My son and I have had Linux computers for years. I've held on to Windows because of my audio (and acrobat) software. But I've had it with Windows and have now migrated all my computers to Linux. In our house we have two computers running Windows 7 (not 10@!?&) - my wife's and my son's gaming computer. The other four are running Linux and I run Linux at work.
Would really like to be able to get audio production running. What's missing? Software? No - there's a lot of really good audio software that runs on Linux. It's the hardware. The external I/O devices - a real pain to find one that works with Linux.
So much so that a lot of midi is done with a software keyboard. Think about it. There's a need, a niche, and maybe even the future. -

It looks like M-Audio is serious about supporting Linux. In the driver search page, Linux is listed as a possible OS. I didn't find drivers for the M-Track 2x2M so I'm not sure what's happening. But at least they are heading in the right direction.

I found that if you're using Ubuntu Studio, you may experience strange glitchey pings and audio that crashes to white noise. It can be pretty terrifying when you have your music cranked, especially when the mix is quiet, and it suddenly crashes and burns in a horrific thundering hiss

Why are there no further comments from M-Audio staff, since 3 years ago? 3 years ought to be sufficient for a Linux driver to be developed. Why is it not here yet?
-
-
I still have my m-audio quad and it still haven't been used.
It's been more than 4 years since my first commentary and still we don't have any drivers for linux.
Is it so difficult or we linux users don't matter at all for you? -
-
It's been already five years and I still have not used my M-Track Quad.
It's frustrating! -
