New Keystation MINI32 MK3 Not Working Mac OSX Mojave 10.14.2

I literally today received my brand new Keystation MINI32 MK3 - I had an original version that stopped working, thought the new model might fix the issue. The keystation shows up in the MIDI setup, but is greyed out and the "Device is Online" button is not checked and I cannot change it. The device doesn't seem to be talking to any of my MIDI software on the computer.

Am I shit out of luck and should be returning this piece of crap keyboard, or can it get figured out? I've been dealing with this for over a year and a half between this new one and my old one.

  • Hey Matthew,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having some trouble with that! If the Keystation connected once before, it sounds like it could at one point transfer data so it doesn't really sound like it's malfunctioning. Before proceeding with the following troubleshooting steps, I would recommend creating a new MIDI configuration in the MIDI studio window. To do this, first connect the Keystation directly to your computer via USB, click where it says Default in the image you posted and select New Configuration..., name the new configuration and your computer will rescan for connected MIDI devices. If you don't have any success with that, try the following steps:

You can verify whether your Keystation is sending MIDI data to your computer with MIDI monitoring software. A MIDI monitor will show you all the incoming data from any MIDI controllers or MIDI interfaces that you have connected to your computer.

For testing MIDI devices on Mac:
    Download snoize: MIDI Monitor

Select the Keystation as a MIDI input source in the monitor and send some data with its keys and controllers. If you see data appear in the input monitor window, the controller is sending MIDI data to your computer and will only need to be configured for MIDI input in the software you're using. Please refer to your software's documentation for more information regarding software setup.

If the Keystation is not sending MIDI data to the monitor, let's test the connection between the controller and the computer. Try connecting the controller with a different USB cable, with different USB ports on your computer, and to a different computer to see if you can reproduce the same behavior. Be sure to connect directly to the computer via USB and avoid using any USB hubs or adapters.

If you try the steps listed above and you are still unable to send MIDI data with the controller, this sounds like it may be hardware related. Warranty and non-warranty claims cannot be handled here on the forum but I can point you in the right direction! Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the M-Audio Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu. This will not require a support code.

    or

  • Hi - So I attempted to check the connection via MIDI monitor. It doesn't even see the keyboard. It's plugged in, the lights are on - this problem has persisted for me since OS 11 - my original version of the Keystation worked fine until that update when it suddenly stopped being recognized. I have other class compliant midi devices that work just fine with the laptop - and I took the laptop into the store to get serviced and checked out just a few weeks ago and it's in perfect health. This MK3 is literally out of the box as of yesterday evening. This is the second M-Audio keyboard now on me to not be usable and I'm quite frustrated. I do not have another computer handy to check and see if this issue is replicable on a new device; I know I have tried both USB ports and a new cable and nothing worked there.

  • Here's the MIDI Monitor window showing it doesn't even see the keyboard.

  • And here is proof the keyboard receives at least power and is plugged in.

  • I have also tried re-scanning MIDI, removing old drivers, resetting the MIDI studio - i now see the keyboard in the System Report, but do not have any functionality. I am highly disappointed in my purchase - I've used Keystations for years but this is ridiculous as I've been without a working keyboard on the road for almost a year.

  • MainStage sees that there is a MIDI connection but no data or signal is being sent into the program. It alerts me when I unplug the keyboard but it has no functionality.

  • The only other information I can provide is that none of my other pieces of USB MIDI gear have any issues with this computer - I have a CME XKey 37 that works beautifully, as does my full-size Kurzweil PC3K8. Even after the newest OSX updates, those devices have no issues with the computer. It seems to just be the M-Audio devices that do not communicate properly.

  • I’m pissed off
Hi - so customer service just sent me a brand-new M-Audio Keystation 32 MINI Mk3 - and it doesn't work either. This isn't a hardware issue to my knowledge. Can anyone from M-Audio help?!

  • Trying something - when I hold down a key on the keystation and rescan the MIDI inputs on the computer, it shows that I was holding the one key down - but nothing else. No new input or no data transferring.

  • Hey Matthew,

Sorry you're still having some trouble with that! If you've received replacement hardware and you're still experiencing the same issue, this could be relative to the computer you're currently using. I would recommend trying the keyboard with a different computer and MIDI monitor to test whether MIDI data can be transferred.

Since you are already in communication with our support team, please email the representative you are working with and we'll be happy to take a closer look at this with you!

  • Hi Matthew,
I'm having the exact same problem. Did you get this fixed?

    Thanks,
    Michael
