Support for Profire Lightbridge

Recently bought a Profire Lightbridge 34/36 secondhand. Big deal I thinks, surely M-Audio support legacy products like AVID, Focusrite, etc?
Fact: No support anywhere! Not even in Legacy section...
WTF M-Audio?! I don't do constant updating of 'gadgets/os x'. It's a minefield of incompatibility issues, and hundreds of hours trawling user and community forums, and frankly, I don't have the time! I want to be making music, so I find a system that works and run with it for years until it rusts into oblivion!
I like using older gadgets...they usually work better than the new ones!
If anyone can offer me guidance and/or assistance to find any info/updates/software/anything, I'd be very appreciative! Thx

  • Hi Adrian,

    Thanks for posting!

The Profire Lightbridge has been discontinued for a long time now, so updates and support are limited, but we're always happy to help where we can!

You didn't mention what operating system you are using, but if you don't constantly update your "gadgets/OS X" than I assume you're still on an older OS? You can find the last available driver below, and as long as you are not on El Capitan, it may work just fine:

Profire Lightbridge - Mac OS X 10.7.3 Driver

Please make sure to always check the compatibility of your gear before making any updates to your system. Besides the Lightbridge being a legacy product, Firewire itself has been a defunct format for more than a few years now. So investing in a firewire device is pretty risky at this point, regardless of the device or manufacturer, and especially if you want it to work with a modern OS.

If you can describe the problem you're having, I'll be more than happy to see what I can do to help.

    Hey Corey,

Thanks for the tip. I must admit, apart from shooting from the hip in my previous post, and in general, I have found some interesting and invaluable bits and pieces scattered about the place.

I also realize I've made my journey somewhat more difficult by electing to be a cheapskate and bunch together an armful of legacy products wishing for miracles, lol!

However, I've made some headway and all it seems is not lost.

Thanks again mate, I'll post again when she's humming like a top, or if I hit anymore brick walls.

    Cheers man,

    Adrian.

  • This is the end of your m-audio hardware go for motu or RME baby face pro they have working drivers for their FireWire interface. M-audio is just lazy to make drivers for their older hardware just don't buy anything with m-audio or avid on it

  • I currently purchased an M Audio Lightbridge to use my ADA Focusrite OCTO PRE but when I connect the two the signal comes with noise when recording, I suspect that may be the optical connection. Any tips or solutions or any problem you like?

  • I own also a M Audio Lightbridge and this ist not the only M-Audio that quits the work for me after some years because of non avaiable drivers. So I decided years ago never to buy again a product of m-audio. The products are great, but the software support makes a couple of products unusable after some years. That's a shame! I own also some old Motu Devices with Firewire, they are from the first generations (over 10 years old) and they work up until today and have great software support - also with newest Mac with the firewire Adapter (Power Book Pro 2017, OS X high Sierra). I think the Lighbridge is really useful until today to record digital up to 32 track digital audio. But without driver software the product is unusable. For me it's like m-audio is only interested in selling hardware but not in satisfied clients.

  • M-Audio firewire devices are working for me on Windows 10 with OS drivers. Not only that they are now bus powered?!
As for OS X there is a 3rd party driver for newer OS's that works as well, check Facebook.
    Hope that helps.
