Oxygen 49: not possible to apply factory reset

Oxygen 49 (2014) doesn't return to factory settings while pressing both "-" and "+" octave buttons. It did work before. I gladly want to apply a reset because in MIDI Monitor the controls look like a complete mess right now.

For example, the mod wheel is recognized as such, but the pitch wheel gives timbre/resonance data. There is topic on this forum that shows how to link pitch bend back to the pitch wheel (edit > select > C31 > CTRL ASSGN > 144 > ENTER). That works in so far that I can use it again as a pitch wheel in Logic, but MIDI Monitor only shows values between -8192 and 8191 in the data column, where the mod wheel is called "Modulation Wheel (coarse)".

But, most important: every time I power up again, it returns to the same useless settings. That goes for almost all the buttons ...

Does anyone have a suggestion?

  • Hi Gerard,

    Thanks for posting.

It sounds like it keeps reverting back because you need to save/store the setting to a preset. Will this happen with every preset?

If it continues to ignore the factory reset, though, there may be a hardware problem with the unit. Warranty and non-warranty claims are not handled here on the forum but I can point you in the right direction. Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

    • Submit a Warranty or Service Inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the M-Audio Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu. This will not require a support code.

    or

    • For faster support, call or email your nearest Support Office or International Distributor. Select your country to find the nearest office.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Hey Corey,

Thank you very much for your help!

It was a preset problem, but it mostly had to do with some basic understanding actually. I didn't know the Oxygen already has 6 presets by default. I thought there were 10 empty ones, so switching between them shouldn't make any difference.

In preset 01 (Twist), the pitch wheel is set to timbre/resonance (controller 71). And because these are default settings it's obvious that it is not possible to apply a factory reset, or that factory reset won't make any difference.

I spent a couple of hours on further reading about MIDI-programming in general and also in relation to the Oxygen 49: it all makes a lot more sense now.
