Oxygen 49 MKIV - Mapping the Record Button to Ableton

I am having a problem with mapping the record button on the Oxygen to recording functions in Ableton 9.6. When mapped to a record button in Ableton, pushing the button causes Ableton to record only as long as the button is held down. As soon as I release the button, Ableton toggles the recording off.

I have followed the online instructions and everything else works just fine. How can I get the Oxygen to send the right signal to toggle recording on/off?

Thanks.

    Hi Jason,

    Thanks for posting.

Please make sure that you are following this guide:

Oxygen MKIV - Setup in Ableton

Remember that you need to press the "Auto" or "Map" button on the Oxygen in order to activate the directlink mode and connect with the map in Ableton.

If it's still not working for some reason, you can manually map it, but that you'll need to change the message that Ableton is listening for. otherwise this would happen regardless of the button or keyboard.

    - Hit Ctrl/CMD + M to enter midi mapping mode
    - Click on the Record button in Ableton
    - Press the record button on the Oxygen
    - Without selecting anything else, look to the button left corner for a drop-down menu labeled "Mode"
    - Click on this menu, and choose "Relative (2's Comp)"

The record button should then react normally.

Again, please make sure to try that map first (undo any manual mappings first so you can be sure it's working correctly). It should do all of this for you.

    I hope this helps!

    HI there,

So the instructions above worked so that the recording starts when I push the record button on the Oxygen. However, when I try to punch out with the record button while playing, it will only stay punched out for as long as I hold the button down. When the button releases, it goes back to recording again. So I cannot use the record button for punch recording.

I tried using other settings on the drop-down menu in the bottom left corner, but they all did the same thing.

Is there any way to fix this? Te transport controls on the Oxygen are not very useful without the ability to punch record.

    Thanks,
    Jason

      Hi Jason,

This is because you mapped the button manually and are using the provided built-in mapping at the same time. One of these needs to be deleted.

If you press CTRL/CMD + M again to enter the mapping mode, just find the record button mapping in the panel to the left and delete it.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
