Oxygen 61 Keys sending weird MIDI messages

  • Hello.

My oxygen 61 (new) is not only playing the notes of my VSTs when using the keys, but It also sends different messages to my DAW (Cubase 9), such as enabling "monitor" in different tracks, showing/hiding the mixer, or scrolling through the tracks. Sometimes It stops happening when I change the programmes of the controller, but after a few minutes it's the same again. I've tried other controllers and keyboards these data and It only happens with the oxygen. Any idea?

  • Hey Ángel,

    Thanks for posting!

Sorry you're having some trouble with that! The Oxygen can communicate with older versions of various DAWs with a protocol called DirectLink. DirectLink automatically maps some functions in the software to controllers on the Oxygen. It sounds like you may have the Oxygen set up for DirectLink when it should be configured for MIDI input.

First, make sure that the AUTO button on the Oxygen's front panel is disengaged. In Cubase, make sure that you have the first port selected in the MIDI input field. Instead of setting up the Oxygen as a control surface, configure it as a generic remote in this instance. Once the Oxygen is configured this way, it will only send MIDI data and it will not be necessary to use the AUTO functionality.

As a possible workaround. you may be able to move the DirectLink file after it has been installed and use the Oxygen in AUTO mode with a later version of Cubase. The process is a bit different so if you want to give it a try, this knowledge base article will walk you through that process:

    M-Audio Oxygen (MKIV) Series - DirectLink Setup for Cubase 6, 7 & 8

I hope that helps you! Let me know if you have any questions.
