I would like to help. What operating system are you on?

  • Hi,
The M-Track is a 24 bit device (as I would have expected) with sample rates up to 48 kHz.

Judging by what Mansour is saying in the manual the OS is likely to be Windows Vista or 7
"In the new window, click the Advanced tab and select 2-channel, 16-bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality) as the default format.
    "

I shouldn't worry to be honest, 24 bit is preferable to 16 bit when recording when using hardware capable of 24 bits.

    A simplified long answer why:
There was a discussion I was part of with a fairly well known Mastering Engineer, and we all came down to it, if the ADC (analogue digital converter) in the recording interface provides 24 bit recording, then use it, else if you use 16 bit to record it will be truncated and have quantisation error distortion. Unless of course the interface has an option for dither inbuilt, which I doubt a lot (except some very expensive ones),

What DAW are you using to record with?

    Kind regards

  • I'd use the ASIO driver option in your DAW to connect your M-Track device to the DAW for recording/playback. This will ignore whatever Windows sound is set to, and give direct access to the M-Track for purer audio.
I think the manual touches on ASIO4ALL, which I think is a very good little bit of software written by a very nice guy (read the FAQ). ASIO4ALL will get things working nicely if you can't access the devices native ASIO driver (or if it even has one?).

With regards to DAWs. It won't much difference what styles you are working with, it's more an issue of what control it gives and how well it integrates and what tools are on offer. I have not used too many. I used to dabble with Cubase VST5, but have been using Reaper for a while now and haven't felt the need to move away. I have also used Adobe Audition 3.0 (by necessity to help a friend out) and have found that platform crippling - but it is quite old now.
For $60 for a non-commercial licence, Reaper has got to be the king of low price, high power DAW's in my opinion.

I think you should play with Ignite though, and get used to how a DAW works (they all do things slightly differently, but it's good to have a solid understanding of one, to realise it's weaknesses and strengths, before looking to others)

  • Are you saying I can't use 16 bit/44100 with M-Track? I have some legacy recordings I need to edit and need 16 bit. Even so, the manual say to select 16/44100 but it's not listed as an option.

    I'm on Win 7/Sp1

    What can I do?

    Thanks

  • Hi. I'm having the same issues. I've got Lenovo z50 on win 8.1, i7 quad core, 8GB ram, 1TB hard drive. Reaper software. I've followed the installation instructions to the letter but the signal is very corrupted? What is this Asio driver thing, I don't have it?
