  • Hey Oye,

    Thanks for posting!

The ProFire 610 is a legacy product with limited support but I'll be happy to try and help you. What you are experiencing will happen when the interface has lost its connection to your computer via FireWire.

When connecting the ProFire to your computer, be sure to connect it before starting the computer. Connecting a device while a computer is running is known as hot plugging and while this is a common practice with USB devices, it is not advisable with devices that connect via FireWire. I would also recommend connecting the ProFire with a different FireWire cable, to a different FireWire port, and test with another computer that is running an appropriate operating system and has a FireWire port.

What operating system are you running on your computer? The ProFire 610 was supported up to Windows 8. Here is the last available driver for the ProFire for use with Windows 7 and 8:

It is also strongly recommended that you use a computer that has a FireWire card with a Texas Instruments chipset. This Avid knowledge base article will go into this in detail:

Why is the FireWire controller chipset important on a PC?

    I hope that helps you!

  • Ok I’ve tried troubleshooting but all to no avail. It’s over a year now and my profile is still useless . Can you please tell me what desktop computer has this TI chipset on. I’m from Nigeria and I can’t get the ti chipset here so I will appreciate knowing what computer product has it onboard so I can go for it.
    Thank you
