ProjectMix firewire clock sync issues - possibly mountain lion related

I'm going to detail here a problem I've been having with my ProjectMix lately. The problem started, I believe, after upgrading to Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.2. I'm running the latest drivers (1.10.5) and have the latest firmware updates for my computer, which is a Macbook Pro 3,1 (late 2008).

My problem is this. Intermittently, it sounds like the clock loses sync and starts spamming this terrible digital noise into the output. I've posted a sample of it below:

I can get the board to make great recordings by simply going into the control panel and switching the clock from internal to external and back, but I have to do this several times per session and it has become infuriating. I've lost several great live sessions because of this issue. That track I posted above was an almost flawless live take with a friend of mine and now it is useless.

I'm about at my wit's end. This kind of problem is what I like to call a "heisenbug." The cause isn't obvious, and it appears and disappears randomly making it hard to diagnose. I'm about at the point where I'm going to back up my entire OS X partition and wipe it back to Snow Leapord. I shouldn't have to be doing this though, there's got to be some sort of software related solution to this that you folks at M-Audio who have access to the driver source can work on. This is a $1000 piece of hardware we're talking about here, not an old mobile pre. There should still be people working on this, making it work with the latest operating systems and computer hardware. Anyway, I'll be checking this thread for a while but if I don't see anything I'm going to try wiping my computer back to snow leapord...
