https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTCAh...
can you show me the workflow like he did in this video?or maybe a vid on how to setup different banks in ableton?

  • Hi Patrick,

    Thanks for posting!

I didn't see him change any banks in Ableton so I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to, but maybe I just missed it. Can you explain what you are trying to accomplish?

if you haven't already, check out our setup guide and make sure that you are set up properly:

Trigger Finger Pro - Ableton Live Lite and Arsenal Setup

    Hope this helps!

  • I bought a TFP last week and had the same issue. I read this tread and your advice sent my to do it via my DAW, ableton. I still came across an issue in ableton. though. In ableton, When I drop Arsenal into track one midi, from the ableton plugins folder, assign AIRdrums as the VST in Arsenal and it all works, I can play airdrums on pad bank A on TFP. When I then drop Hybrid into the 2nd track it breaks. I end up with only Hybrid playing on both tracks and sound out of PC and I airdrums wont play. I have assigned Midi ch01 for pad bank A on TFP and Midi ch02 for Bank B on TFP.
My Ableton is the live trial BTW, in case that is only allowing me one active VsT.
    Can anyone help?
    Kieran, Ireland.

  • Morning Tommy et all,
I'm watching this topic like a hawk as it's the biggest missing bit from M-Audio’s TFP tutorial videos. The latter are great and have helped me get TFP in Ableton set up correctly. I’m in doubt as to why M-Audio have left this big “how-To” out of these and after researching and finding I’m not the only one asking the question, it’s obvious M-Audio have professionally dodged answering it. Why, I can only guess, it suggests that, it was an oversight in the design and can’t be fixed or, like other threads on the subject suggest M-Audio have (without announcing) stopped supporting the product. This though is fuelled by the fact that no firmware has been release since its launch. That said, I have made some progress myself. So, before I give the details, I need to set the expectations. I am no expert in Ableton, I have been using it 9 days now so still getting through the tutorials for it. I'm no TFP expert either, again owning it 9 days.
To nudge M-Audio into action, as I said all your video tutorials are great. The Ableton one I used was 100% and I had Ableton setup in 5 minutes. You other tutorials on the TFP walkthroughs were 100% as well. If you can produce these great tutorials please create one showing us all how to use a DAW and have 4 different sounds on the 4 different banks. It’s not that TFP can’t do it, I’m halfway there already.
    So here we go:
Ableton/TFP setup, using one instance of Arsenal and assigning one PAD bank to another VST:
    1. Load the default “Live&Arsenal” preset.
    2. Load an empty seq preset (number 15 in the first empty one on the TFP list)
    3. TFP state after above is that all Pad banks are sending “arsenal”
    4. Set up Ableton using the great M-Audio video tutorial.
    5. Create a new project in Ableton
    6. Drag the Arsenal Plugin onto the track area, ABLN will create a new track and Arsenal application will open in a separate window.
    7. Load AirDrums into Arsenal, pick a soundbank and press some pads and you get Airdrums sounds!
    8. At this stage all pads in all banks will trigger the sound according to what Airdrums assigns. I noticed that some Airdrum sounds don’t have sounds associated to banks B to D. Some do.
    9. Next step is to change the midi out channel on all pads on one of the banks. In doing this you are taking a bank away from the Arsenal track. I chose bank D.
    10. I picked an Airdrum soundbank that did not have any sounds associate to bank D but you can pick a sound that does use all banks, it just means that if you move the Midi out channel on the bank you can’t play the sound on that bank associated with Arsenal.
    11. So, bank D is now outputting all pads to midi channel 2. The hard part in doing that is that, on TFP, you have to select each pad on the bank and change its channel, you can’t change the midi out for all pads in a bank in one selection, if anyone out there can show me how, please share this. If you press bank D now you will get no sound triggering.
    12. Back in Ableton, change the input (in the dropdown) on the Arsenal track form “all channels” to “ch1”.
    13. Still in Ableton, from the plugin folder, select Hybrid and drag it and create a new track. Hybrid’s VST application will open, select a sound in this.
    14. Change the input on this track from “all channels” to ch2.
    15. Select bank D on TFP and voila, press any pad and a Hybrid sound will play.
    16. At first this did not work and I found out it was Ableton. I did not know that if you don’t have the track rec arm icon selected and red you would not hear the sound for this track. By default Ableton was selectin only one track. To fix this, I clicked the icon on the second track while holding the “CRTL” key on my PC, ending up with the two rec Arm icons red.
    17. The result is: when I press any pad in banks A to C I get the sound that AirDrums assigns. When I press any pad in Banks C I get the Hybrid assigned sound.
This is as far as I have got with the time I have available to tinker. What I need to find out now is, how to, using the sequencer in TFP, sequence the pads in TFP to trigger both banks. If anyone can springboard me to that I’d be grateful.
I have to say, after a break of 8 years in this hobby I’m blown away at how good the VSTs are, how god the TFP is and how good (actually fantastic) Ableton is. I just need more time to master all again.
My first and only device outside of the VSTs I have is my Korg 05r module which is now a vintage synth. For me it’s still got great sounds so I’m keeping it till it dies.

As I said, I'm not the expert, I hope this helps others and I hope i get help from others because I'm sure the experts can trash my "how to", I've just started the discussion yo maybe get M-Audio to answer officially too!

  • I’m thankful
thank you! Great, finally somenone who can help us! can't understand why M-audio can't show this to us. Maybe a tutorial video can show us the ultimate settings to do this, M-audio ? are you there?

    Hi Patrick,
I hope it helped. I have since the post found out a bit more and can clarify my some inaccurate points from my previous post.
Where I want to get too:
    • Have TFP controlling one instance of Arsenal with Airdrums loaded
    • Have TFP on at least one bank control another VST (Hybrid or other)
    • Create a sequence on TFP that triggers all banks individually
    • So, have a sequence triggering Airdrums sounds
    • And TFP sequencing the VST on the one bank with the other VST attached.
    • The above two “wants” had me stumped for a bit but I finally understood how to do it. Before I figured it out all my vst were been triggered by the “on” steps in the TFP sequencer.

    So, where am I:
A few people and investigation gave me some eureka moments, these been:
    1. A ”unlisted” M-Audio Tutorial video in YouTube - which I can’t find now! I’ll add it to the post when I get to my browser history on my home PC.
    2. Knowing that I must have the “output” on the bank I want to have a different VST on has to be set to “Midi” and not “Arsenal”.
    3. Knowing that the pads on that bank must have their Midi channel changed from 1 to any other channel that is free.
I have successfully managed to have TFP setup (with Ableton) with 3 banks running Arsenal with AirDrums loaded (banks A, B and D) and one bank (Bank C for me but you can configure any of the four) configured to Midi in the pad bank setting in TFP running any 3rd party VST (Arturia Analog Pro).
When I now use the TFP Sequencer and create a sequence on the pads in banks A, B and D the pads in Bank A, B and D trigger the corresponding sound from AirDrum in Arsenal.
When I do the same on the pads in Bank C the sequencer plays the sound corresponding to the VST on that bank.

Eureka! I jumped out of the seat at 03:00AM and nearly woke the house. I’ve created my first sequence and saved it into Ableton! I’s a masterpiece to me but awful to anyone else.

    What’s next:
    1. The notes assigned on Banks C are the default TFP ones, so incremental from Banks A to D. If I want to sequence a different octave then I need to change these.
    2. Work with sounds in AiDrum to have more than just drum sounds on min one BANK or two so I can have synth sounds/samples to compliment the sequence.
Hope all helps, I’d love the experts to correct me though... M-audio maybe?

  • You, sir, are a god amongst men!

THANK YOU.. I am watching this like a HAWK. because this is EXACTLY what I am trying to do with my TFP.

There are a lot of Demo videos but none actually walk you through HOW to so any of it.

I, also, want to be able to (in a live DJ setting) trigger loops, sequences, etc WHILE Djing... so ideally the TFP (And ableton) would be receiving midi clock data from the Mixer/CDJs/XDJ's and would stay in sync with that data and leave me time to go sequence a layer on top of the tracks playing.

To do this, I absolutely need the TFP to send Airdrum data on one (or more banks) and then simulteanously be able to use Hybrid (or any other synth) on another bank. (and still -MAYBE- be able to use the musical key presets)

  • Hi Kieran, long time ago, but i'm back for another try to setup banks for my TFP.
Your last action here was a succes, can you tell me how you did it? or maybe a youtube movie where you explain in detail on how you setup different tanks in ableton or logic? there is so much help on internet about this TFP. thanks m-audio for the support here...
