Total Newbie Question - Oxygen25 3rd Gen

Hi
Embarrassed to ask this, but I have spent a while looking and can't find an answer.
I'm a complete keyboard beginner - I'm using this with Logic Pro 9, the keyboard (oxygen25 3rd gen) plays sounds, but as it's a mini keyboard (is that the technical expression?) it obviously only covers some of the keys available on Logic's Piano roll. How do I 'move' the Oxygen's playing area to play the other section of the Piano Roll? For example, I select 'Electronic Dub Kit' and the Oxygen25 keyboard can only play the 'synth' part of it - how can I get it to play the percussion part?
I have soooooo much to learn, I know, and any help would be great!

Also, are there any tutorials available for this keyboard?

Many thanks
D

  • Hey Dominic,

    Thanks for posting!

No problem! Use the Oxygen's octave < and > buttons to transpose what notes the Oxygen sends from its keys. It sounds like you need to transpose the Oxygen down an octave or two to access the drum samples in Logic's Ultrabeat. This will help you use Ultrabeat but the same principles apply when you are changing the register of the Oxygen for use with other virtual instruments.

I would advise keeping the Oxygen's user guide handy to quickly reference the functions of your keyboard. You can download your Oxygen's user guide from the following link under Keyboard Controllers > Oxygen 25 (blue indicates 3rd gen):

    M-Audio Documentation Search

In terms of tutorials or other learning resources, YouTube is typically a safe bet. It might help you to learn a bit more about how MIDI works than the Oxygen itself as most MIDI controllers perform similar functions. The more you can learn about MIDI, the more these controller functions will make sense!

I think these links will be helpful to you:

  • Hi Nick
What an awesome reply. Thank you so much!
That all works for me and I appreciate the links. As keen as I am to jump in I will try to grasp as much theory too, starting with Midi ;-)
Lots of work to do and fun to be had.
    Top man!
