Trigger Finger Pro Mackie Problem Volume Ableton

I am finding that the TFP is unuseable in a studio context because when set to the Live&Arsenal setting, and enabled in the ableton settings, it CONSTANTLY sends volume change on the faders whether or not they have been moved.

So it means that I can't undo anything in my history, or step back because the history is flooded out with volume change events.

Is there some way to stop this, so that I can use the TFP without destroying my edit history?

    Hi Kim,

Sorry you are having trouble with that.

This sounds more like an issue with your hardware if the controller is sending cc data on it's own.

Start by making sure that you have set up everything correctly in Ableton:

Trigger Finger Pro - Setup in Ableton Live

Especially check that your control surface in the Ableton Preferences is using the correct "Mackie" TFP port as it's input. If not a simple pad press could accidentally be translated to a volume adjustment if the pad is sending MIDI note data.

if you still see unwarranted volume control data, close Ableton and check the output of the TFP with a midi monitor:

    Windows: MIDI-OX

    • Open MIDI-OX with all other programs closed.
    • In the Options > MIDI Devices section.
    • Select your controller ports from the MIDI Input menu. Click OK.
    • Now MIDI-OX will simply list all incoming MIDI messages.

    Mac: MIDI Monitor

    • Open MIDI Monitor with all other programs closed.
    • In the "Sources" section, check the boxes for your controller's ports.
    • Now MIDI Monitor will simply list all incoming MIDI Messages.

If you see data appear and you are not touching the faders, this may indicate a problem with the unit.

Let me know how this goes!

  • Everything checks out on the setup, so will try a capture using midiox and update you. Thanks for responding
