Useless master fader

Has anyone found a work around that will enable the master fader on a Projectmix IO in pro tools? There are many control surfaces with a 9th fader which is rendered useless under HUI or Mackie protocol in one of the most widely used DAW's!! Have Mackie, Avid or M Audio done anything to help it's customers with this...such as an updated HUI protocol, or a driver update? Surely it should be possible...now we have colour TV and the wheel and everything? ;-)

  • Hello scooby,

    Thanks for posting!

The HUI protocol was written some time ago, according to Wikipedia, by Mackie and Digidesign. I wouldn't be able to confirm whether updates to this are forthcoming or even possible at this point, but the way HUI maps controls is not modifiable as it is now.

I wish I could help! Certainly, if I come upon an alternative method I'll pass it along. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Might it be possible to control the 9th fader with midi? I am sure I had it moving at one time....I was trying to control Reason....a Leslie speaker speed i think...using midi. Isn't there some midi control software download somewhere for the projectmix? Surely then I could assign the master fader on the projectmix to the pro tools master fader...and use HUI for the other 8? At the moment though the HUI has disabled the 9th fader...which again...I had it at least movable in the past...not stuck down at the bottom!

  • I had thought of that, but unfortunately Pro Tools will not interpret MIDI commands for mix controls (faders, pan, etc...).

The HUI is the primary mode of mapping for 3rd party controllers in Pro Tools. There isn't a "MIDI Mapping" mode, so to speak.
