Midisport 2x4 - Windows XP Drivers

Midisport 2x4, driver 6.1.2, WinXPSP3, does not install, instead get BlueScreenOf Death, no other midi drivers installed. What do I need to make this work, it worked w/Win98?

  • Hi,

Sorry you are having trouble with that.

The blue screen of death can be caused by so many different problems, including issues with your OS, drivers, computer hardware, etc.

Make sure that you are downloading/installing the driver from the link below:

    Midisport 2X4 - Windows XP SP3 driver

Before installing the driver, maybe try running a CCleaner registry cleaner to be sure it installs properly:

    CCleaner

    - Uninstall any drivers associated with the device
    - Open CCLeaner
    - Click Registry
    - Click Scan for Issues
    - Wait
    - Fix Select Issues
    - Click Yes to create a ‘backup’
    - Click Save
    - Click Fix All Selected Issues
    - Run Steps 3-9 two or three more times until there are no issues found.
    - This should have cleared out unnecessary files that may have been causing any conflicts.
    - Reboot your computer
    - Unzip the downloaded folder and reinstall the drivers.

If continues to cause problems on this OS/computer and not another, you may be looking at a problem with the computer and may want to speak with a computer technician to sort it out.

Let me know how it goes!

  • The weird thing is that I also have a 2x2 Anniversary Edition I/F that installs w/no problems at all and seems to be using a native windows driver (both ports are visible). Is there a difference in the USB protocols between the two interfaces? (I am a regular user of CCleaner. I also dld the latest driver at the above link prior to attempting the install) Thanks for the help so far...

  • The Anniversary Edition will work as class-compliant to some extent. The two should actually use the same 6.1.2 driver posted above, though the 2x2 Anniversary will mostly work with the core-midi drivers. The additional driver could end up providing less latency and better response with more complicated midi functions, though.

  • When I install the 6.1.2 driver the install appears to go properly the Windows "finds" the I/F and when it's finished the second install that's when I get the "BSOD". I've removed every other usb midi driver including the Tascam US1800 yet it crashes the computer the same way every time I've tried it.
