In the MediaMind Component when setting up an ad, I can't type the letter 'a' more than once on a MAC (PC is fine)

Hi,

When setting up a new ad or editing an existing ad in the MediaMind component on MAC computers, I can only type the letter 'a' once.

On PC this is fine.

Although not a show stopper (you can still paste the letter 'a'), this is quite annoying.

Can you check why & fix for next release please?

thanks

  • Hi Demi,

We apologize for the inconvenience, we are aware of the issue but it is currently pending on Adobe's side, as it's a bug in the Flash authoring tool and not in MediaMind's workshop.

As soon as it is fixed (we have an open bug at Adobe) we will let you know.

  • I also have this issue. Looks like it's 2 months old already. Makes it pretty tough to complete many clickthrough urls because "a" is a pretty common letter!

  • I have the same problem. Have used a PC for a lot of years building EB banners and just started using a Mac to build RM with the EB workshop and I've noticed that issue and also the inability to use the cmd+v keys to paste. that is an annoyance.. oh and while i'm on it I also notice the "view image" icon is missing from the workshop setting window. I can preview the backup gif on a PC but not on a Mac??

  • Hello again Blitz,

Apologies but we have yet to receive feedback from Adobe on the letter 'a' issue.

The workaround is to type in the Ad name in a text editor and then copy-and-paste it into the Workshop. Or, rename the Ad through the platform after it has been uploaded.

As for the Cmd+V (i.e., shortcut keys for paste) issue you are having, it seems to work for us. Can you please point to us where it is failing in the Workshop?

We see what you mean by the missing preview image button in Mac (i.e., should have been under the Ad Settings>Ad Setup>Default Image). We agree that it should be available in Mac as it is in PC so we are raising it to our product team.

Please let us know if there's anything else. Thank you!

  • Thanks for the feedback.. The letter 'a' workaround you mentioned is something I am already applying..

Regarding the CMD+V fail I find this happens when I am using the workshop to create a new ad.
    1. Open Flash
    2. Open EB Workshop
    3. New > (any banner type)
    4. In the "New Banner" dialog widow try and use CMD+V to past text into the text fields. e.g Ad Name or File Name.. I can right mouse click and chose paste but the keyboard command fails.

I know this may not seem like much but from a development point of view I will look for every little thing that will make the process more efficient. You can understand the hitting cmd+v on the keyboard is only ever so slightly more efficient. Now multiply that by a factor of 60 or 100 when creating large multi banner RM campaigns and it becomes just an additional small annoyance. This is not the case on the PC however.

The missing preview image button is definitely a bigger annoyance. My first task at a new job has been to go through a pile of EBA files (existing banners) and double check all assets are correct. This is a simple task until I have to check the images. Once again I know this is a small and seemingly low priority issue but most campaigns I see have up to 10, 15, 20 plus banners each.. I'll rarely build just one banner.

  • Hi Blitz,

Thanks for the screenshot! Those input fields (e.g Ad Name or File Name) you've highlighted are the ones we've included in our testing but we still can't reproduce the issue after double checking on it wherein the command+V is failing to paste the text. Is it happening every time for you?

The Workshop version for Mac we're using is 4.3.2.2. Which version do you have on Mac?

We understand the need for efficiency so we appreciate the details that you are sending us to make life easier for our MXP users.

    Thanks again!

  • Yep the workshop on the Mac I am using has been updated to 4.3.2.2

Here's the interesting thing.. I've encountered this inability to use cmd-v in the text fields on three different Macs in two separate offices. The first time was about two years ago.. Over time I thought this is just how the UI behaved in the workshop on the Mac. Recently I have moved from one mac to a different mac in the same office and have experienced it on both. (using cmd-v or ctrl-v is completely a reflex action these days)

I'm totally surprised to learn that you guys do not experience this. Can't think of why? Once again could user permissions and office Mac user setup procedures inhibit the cmd-v functionality somehow?? It's got me intrigued now and will be checking this on all Mac's with licensed Flash installed.

  • Hi Blitz,

Apologies if we're not able to reproduce here in our office. So, we just asked another office to try to reproduce it for us - which they were able to. We're raising it to our R&D team and we'll let you know when we have something to pass on.

  • Thanks again for the update.. It's good to know that I'm not going crazy.. :) I did check this on two other Mac's with the same result: Unable to use cmd+v in the text fields.. It also happens on the internal dialog screens after the initial add setup with the workshop.

Will be keen to see if you guys can crack that one.. :)

  • Hi Blitz,

Our apologies for the delayed update on this one. MediaMind will be releasing a new Workshop version on November 11 where this unresponsive cmd+v issue on Mac is fixed.

Please let us know if there is anything else. Thank you!

  • Hi Blitz,

    Hope this finds you well.

We have a new workshop version but we learned that it is a beta version which is not yet available to the general public. We will let you know as soon as we have a release date for the version that is available for everyone.

    Thanks for your patience.
