In an effort to build my business I took my corporate recommendation a couple of years age and signed up on your site. Recently we had a company conference call on some different ways to use Merchants Circle to help build our respective businesses.
So today I tried to expand my listing by adding products. Well it was a nice idea while it lasted. Working from the assumption that this was a user-friendly site I tried to upload a standard Jpeg image to go with my FIRST product listing. I found the image I wanted and told the system to upload it, and waited. For TWO bloody hours I waited, and got nothing but a cute little moving graphic apparently indicating it was attempting to do something. God only knows what it might have been because it was obviously not uploading my image.
Well my next conclusion was that what I was trying to do was not supported in the BASIC package. So I parted with some of my hard earned shekels and upgraded to the $14.95 package. Working on the theory the stock image I tried before might have been corrupted; I created a new image from scratch, and then tried to upload my image again. What I got this time was an error message telling me I had the wrong file format. I then proceeded to re-save the same image in every conceivable variation that the ERROR message asked for. Each time getting the same Gatezilla nasty gram that the file was bad or the wrong file type.
Anyway the end result of all of that futility is this little nasty gram of my own. I can not see how other businesses can laud praises on a web site that is supposed to help promote other businesses when interfacing to that site can be such a pain in ones backside. Especially when a person follows all of the given directions to the letter only to slapped in the face with some form of “404” ERROR message saying you can’t get there from here.
At this point can anybody tell me how to correct this problem? So I can get my product images on my listing!

Dear Gary,

The issues you are experiencing, most likely are due to a browser setting or the need to clear your cookies/cache information under preferences.

Here is a great article from our Help Center that can offer more feedback how to update your preferences:

http://merchantcircle.desk.com/custom...

This should correct the issue. Please let us know if this doesn't solve the problem you are experiencing.

I had posted a blog and several people had posted some comments. I could not find a way to remove those comments. Where is the "delete" ability when someone posts a comments on a blog and I want to delete their comment ? I looked all over the place and could not for the life of me find the button !

I finally had to simply copy my blog , delete it and then repost the blog all over again just to get rid of their comments. When I blog...I am not looking for comments. May I make a suggestion to MC ? Create the ability to us bloggers so that we can disable the comment section ?? When I blog, I am not always seeking the opinion of others. I am simply just blogging to blog ...ie..vent.

Well, today is the first time in 7 months that I have signed on to MC. Before that, I signed on two or three times a day. Since y'all changed the format and let my competition advertise in a major way on my page page (their ad takes up more room on my page than I do) and nullified the Mayorship, I have no need. While signed on today I noticed my request has been limited to 3 (used to be that many or more an hour). So my question is, How is working out for y'all?

Nice to see my comment does not even warrant a response. When I have a disgruntled customer I at least answer their questions in an effort to pacify them. No way I will ever pay a dime for anything on MC.

Michael,

i apologize for the lack of response. Our clients most definitely deserve to be treated with respect and to have their issues/questions addressed. We are currently undergoing some staffing changes in an attempt to improve the customer service experience we are able to offer.

I am sorry that your listing has been trouble lately, but the new interface we have developed allows users to view similar businesses offering related products when viewing a specific listing. This provides the user with more information to make a decision about what product(s) may be best for her.

I took the time to look up your listing and saw that your are currently using our standard service that comes free of charge for all claimed businesses, In this case, there will be ads/listings for related businesses that show up on your business's page.

If you would like to learn more about our premium services which include the removal of competitor ads from your business listing, there is information available here as to the different products we offer:

http://merchantcircle.desk.com/custom...

And again, let me apologize for the delayed response. We are actively going to be working to improve the way we interact with our customers here and via our support desk. I hope that you will stick with us and see just what we will be able to do to help your business grow.

Why would I pay to advertise other businesses more prominently than my own. Read Luigi M. Scollo comments. They spent over 3600.00 with MC only to have his page Inundated with ads from competing companies.

Please cease from using political ads on your internet Web Page. It is inappropriate and appears on pages set up for companies who do not appreciate it - as it appears they support those ads. I will not return to your internet web page. I am entering this here, as there was no link on the web page for CONTACTS.

Hey Donald,

This is the correct place to make your post. I agree with you, I hate political ads as well - regardless of who they're for/against. To be honest, we wouldn't be able to change the the ads in time - we renew advertising contracts every quarter. By the time they are renewed the election will be over, and the political jargon will be gone again for another 4 years.

Welcome to Merchant Circle Nicole!

AdDollars are virtual rewards for using MerchantCircle, and can be used to discount purchases of our premium service packages. You will earn more AdDollars with each invitation you send that is accepted. (to merchants not already signed up with MC).

You also earn AdDollars by publishing blog posts and newsletters. The premium service packages give you opportunities to advertise your business on other places like Yahoo and Google.

You can locate your current AD DOLLAR Balance from your dashboard once you're logged in. Click "My Account" -- "Account Settings" -- "Billing Activity" Scroll to the bottom of page and you will find a summary of AD PENNIES earned.

If you want to eventually upgrade to a premium package, you start under "my account" as well and go to "shopping cart."

Hi Lucinda,

If your listing is already claimed, then log into your dashboard. To the left of where the avatar would be is the word "edit profile." That will bring you to a new list that then says "Profile Picture," and from there you can upload a new pic.

To update your icon on this message board, go to the top of the dashboard and click the drop down box that says "Welcome" from there you click "Profile Information" and then "Edit Profile" on the left hand side of the screen. There will be a list of different options to change, and at the bottom will be an "upload pic" next to your avatar.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions!

Hello there! We are in the process of making some very important changes here at MerchantCircle to optimize the user experience we offer. In this process of creation, there is inevitably destruction...and in the case that occurred with Ad dollars.

We do not support the Ad dollars feature any longer as it was determined not to be as beneficial for our merchant community as we would have liked it to be. We are currently developing new ways to promote activity for our merchant and neighbor communities. If you have any suggestions on how we could achieve our goal of incentivizing user activity, let us know!

Again, we are sorry that this feature is no longer supported, but we are working to replace it with a better system to improve the overall MC experience you have come to expect.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention! I was able to take down that listing because you provided the link in your comment, which is a big help for us.

This is the kind of community support that enables us to improve the user experience here at MerchantCircle. If there are duplicate listings, listings for businesses that have shut down, or listings that just contain incorrect information, you can submit the information here:

http://merchantcircle.desk.com/custom...

Our staff will examine the listing in question and take the appropriate action (in most cases, this will result in the listing being removed so search results will be cleaner.

Thanks again for your help, Tony! Be sure to let us know if you find anything else we can do to make the site better!

I have been trying to google sites for supplies we need for an upcoming home remodeling project. Every time I click on a site, I get redirected to Merchant Circle. This is beyond frustrating to me. We apologize for the frustration you have encountered. We definitely do not want to upset any of our users as we try to ensure a successful experience for our merchant and neighbor communities.

The issue you are bringing up is perhaps a result of the effective marketing strategies we employ here at MerchantCircle - we want your business to be seen! For this reason, we are able to boast a retention of over 1.5 million active users who rely on our site to get their business name out there!

In the course of our improvement in the way we market businesses, we will make every attempt to prevent cases such as this from happening, but the goal remains the same: Get people excited about your listing!

We hope that you will give us another shot and that we will be able to deliver the results you need for your remodeling project. Have a great day!

This is the perhaps the most poorly designed consumer-oriented site I think I've ever come across and I use many to compliment and critique businesses. All I wanted to do was write a positive review for a doctor, and I find a page supposedly for him that's littered with unwelcome garbage, and now a forum filled with disgruntled users who've been complaining for far too many months. MerchantCircle inexcusably hogs an unconscionably huge portion of the doctor's page with junk - competitors names, addresses, and totally UNrelated business listings. Cutting right through the middle of his listing is a huge intrusive banner of "related businesses" - four animal hospitals! The only way veterinarians would be related to an opthomologist is by marriage. A side pop up reminiscent of the whack a mole game kept distracting me with even more unrelated businesses! I was instantly turned off and feel sorry for any business owner or consumer foolish enough to waste time here.
Having read the reply to the previous complainant's post, I suspect what Rory touts as "effective marketing strategies" is better known as sleazy tactics to game (SEO) search engine optimization. Dump dozens of unrelated businesses on each page so Google will spider the pages and count each company name mentioned as some sort of "new" instance even though 99.99999% of visitors pay no attention to such junk listings. Disingenuous bordering on deceitful.
This site doesn't need a face lift, MerchantCircle needs to fire the mental midgets who designed it and completely reevaluate their business model. Maybe learn the concept of polished client presentations and user friendly GUIs, too. Might be nice if they added a FAQ for what to do if the stars and buttons don't work as I use Firefox, NoScript ad blockers and a hosts manager to control dataminers and distracting ad servers and the only site that puts out more hurdles to jump is Yahoo. I couldn't determine which of the (too) many cookies the site wants to stick on my PC simply to rank the doctor using the stars! MerchantCircle = FAIL

I am sorry that you have had such a negative experience with the product we offer. You seem to have encountered problems with the basic premise of our website, and your complaints are centered not on site functionality, but on the way we choose to do business.

The listing you bring into question is most likely an unclaimed business listing the information from which we pulled from publicly-available sources such as the Yellow Pages. This information is, sadly, not verified until the business owner claims the listing or someone brings it to our attention for removal. In this case, i can only speculate that the listing was littered with negative reviews because there is no ownership over it. If you are able to provide a link to the listing, I can examine it to see if it is appropriate for removal.

Unfortunately, in our process of continued improvement, we are going to experience negative assessments such as this one. Unclaimed listings contain advertisement so that users are able to view alternative options for related services. When a listing is claimed, the owner has the option to manage their listing in such a way as to remove these ads from the listing.

I apologize for the negative experience you have had with MerchantCircle, and we will certainly try to enhance our site appeal as we move forward with our design progress.

There has long been a problem for merchants with the premise of this site. Perhaps that is because it was promoted as a site to assist and support local merchants. That was a fine idea but was not the practice consistent with the business model of the company.

It is for the company to set their business model. To state it honestly without pretending to be motivated by an interest in the merchants and their results would have been a kindness. Instead merchants continue - does anyone continue - to choose to believe that there is benefit in them spending hours of unpaid work on their pages over which they have no control and which have no capacity to return on the invested time spent.

I say this sadly since I have spent so many hours of my own and had such great hopes that this site may actually in a small way do what it purported to do, namely provide a quality vehicle for local businesses to benefit and promote their local commercial enterprises and communities.

If anyone is interested in connecting you can find me on FB /LAcoaching

My best to all the merchants for a strong and happy 2014

I give you these articles as an example:

http://experts.merchantcircle.com/art...
http://experts.merchantcircle.com/art...
http://experts.merchantcircle.com/art...
http://experts.merchantcircle.com/art...

Now, I could spend all day picking these apart, But after 20 years in this industry. I have never seen, heard of, or purchased an "oil wrench". And If I saw someone stalking my business and monitoring my customers, I would probably call the police.

The one article sounds more like an advertisement for AAA. ( while it is good advice, there are several other associations with even stricter guidelines for certifying repair facilities. ASA for example)

We are all in the same boat trying to support local businesses, and provide information so that the consumer can make a well educated decision about where or where not to have their vehicle worked on. As an Auto shop owner, and being in this industry for just over 20 years, these articles are the beginning of a bad customer experience that we ( reputable repair facilities) end up having to deal with. I will not post my shop name, because this is not an advertisement. But I feel the information posted in these articles is misleading, and written by someone with no real vested interest in what the consumer really needs to know to make an informed decision. Not once in any of these articles was warranty mentioned. The shop that costs a bit more, most likely spends more money on the right tools, equipment, information technology and technicians ( not mechanics) and they stand behind their work because of it. This is just an example of what the consumer should be looking for.

PS. I would love to have MCEditorials job if it's open. Or at least , have him/her talk to a reputable repair shop owner before writing any more "self help" articles.

Hello!

It seems you have stumbled upon a somewhat outdated section of MerchantCircle! We have previously promoted the posting of expert content by industry professionals on MC for the benefit of our community. Unfortunately, we have decided against maintaining this feature in favor of the development of new routes by which to make similar content available.

in the future, we hope to launch a site feature that is even better than the expert articles we have allowed in the past, so please stick with us!

Good find! I will speak with our engineering staff to see if we can have access to this remote section of MerchantCircle removed. Have a marvelous day!

Hello!

The listing in the picture you have included above is not claimed, meaning that your business is not connected with an email address and is merely the information that we have pulled from publicly-available sources such as the Yellow Pages,

When you find your business with a listing that hasn't been claimed, we hope that you will decide to claim it FOR FREE! and in doing so, join our merchant community. From there, you will be able to publish deals for your customers to see, blog posts, newsletters, and allow clients to book appointments/request quotes.

In this case, the information that is generated through the "request a quote" feature is not connected with any email address or account because nobody is behind the listing!

So, we hope that you will decide to claim your business listing to take advantage of the full potential for your business!

Have a wonderful day!

You Spoke, We Listened...and It’s Working!
As you know, we recently updated the MerchantCircle.com website experience. It’s only been a few weeks, but we’re happy to report that consumer engagement with the site (especially merchant listing pages) is at its all-time highest level!

This means that more consumers are finding more businesses on MerchantCircle than ever before. Customers are spending more time on Merchant business listing pages, and they are reading and writing reviews about Merchants they love. This has been our goal from the very beginning - connecting local Merchants directly with Neighbors who need their products and services.

PLUS you need to stop the "return" button from doing the update! I use it on Google Plus, Twitter, Facebook, and none of them make it 'update' - let me click the button, and nothing else. It is very frustrating... End up doing the update two or three times, because I want to separate the link I am referring too - from other text so it doesn't make it 'unlinkable'....

Well its obvious that merchant circle is only concerned with their bottom line and have removed anything we feel was valuable to the site. I see they are selling lots of ads but many are just the same old stuff very spammy. All the complaints listed and they explained them all away as oh well it will be better when we are done. Are you done yet? Cant even post a comment anymore. Why come here. We have the lowest prices for packaging supplies and we once used you as a tool to get the word out because we do not advertise we operate on word of mouth and that is why we can offer lower prices. We are not paying Google adwords like all of our competitors so we can pass the savings on to our customers. Too bad Merchant Circle really feels they know more than we do. The end users. I guess Ill leave it at that if you want low prices check us out. We will work hard for your business. www.gbepackaging.com - www.productpackagingsupplies.com

We had some good comments on this thread about supporting local business. That's still valid. Now the way to do that is to focus on you own website - and with social media that is a fit for your business.

The web is in constant state of change when it comes to local businesses and your efforts on your own sites can make a huge difference.

Any effort beyond just claiming your listing and ensuring your contact details are correct is better spent on your own behalf, and not working for no pay for MC.
