Share your Tips and Tricks for online marketing and success!

I'll go first!

Most people don't realize that what you do with your MerchantCircle listing affects your online visibility!

Below are some quick tips and tricks to get you started on improving your online presence!

1) Blog, blog, blog--try to blog at LEAST once a month. Big search engines like Google love fresh blogs! To create a blog visit your Dashboard and click Publish ->Create Blog.

2) Add photos to your listing site and tag them and don't forget to add keywords (tags)! Add photos through Publish>Pictures

3) Invite and connect with more merchants and make your page more valuable online! Start connecting under "Network">Invite to invite new members or Member Search to connect with existing members!

4) Have 2-3 coupons on your listing page and change them up every month! Create coupons under Publish>Coupons

Your city and location play a big part in getting you more visibility too, but ultimately it is up to you and your activity on MerchantCircle as well as whether or not you have upgraded to a paid package that determines the extent of your online visibility.

#who doesn't love a good tip?

These tips are good advice and worth following but remember your blog should be interesting for your reader - it should inform them, teach them, entertain them or encourage them and not just be something that addresses what you want!

Quality + regular blogging will reward you much better in search than poor quality blogging.

Remember to add your contact details to your blogs.

Offer a service, and ask people for their comments. I have over 300 people writing me with questions on ear piercing (like a Dear Abby column).

Why blog & tag? Blogging and tagging photos helps add keywords, thus relevancy, to your MC page in the eyes of the search engines (as long as your articles and tags are related to your business). When searchers on the internet are interested in a topic, they type in words in the search field -- which may include YOUR blog content, tags, etc. -- to find what they want. Potentially then, your pages will come up in the search results for that person doing the search.

So obviously, the more content on and connected to your page that has to do with your business the better.

Therefore, be sure to also answer questions here on MC that are related to your business as your answers also get published on your page. This substantiates your business even more in the eyes of the search engines. And gives them more bait to find your page(s) with when the public does searches on the internet.

Don't forget to send out great newsletters full of content too. Anything that gives you an opportunity to compose and post a textual description or relation to your business, be sure to take advantage of it and do it. :)

Peace and success,
Claudia Beck :)

It's good to use Q&A websites to answer questions about your industry.

OK This is for all the Mayors or Ex Mayors and the members that put in thousands of hours on MC and now feel a loss of marketing power with the recent changes and it seems clear its up to the new owners to decide whats good or bad now.

So one thing I think we all can do to make up a little is to work on getting more clicks on those buttons that google is now going to use in search results. We could all post our urls for our Google +1 and our Like buttons. We all click each others buttons (sounds dirty?) and well it cant hurt.

I for one see these as frustrating, We placed them on our homepage and I dont know if they even work all the time. We have thousands of customers ordering our products every month after month and no one will click our buttons. We still have the original click on our google +1 button when I tested it. Our customers love our prices but they just are not here to socalize they want to order packaging and get back to the other 20 jobs they have. Comparing prices takes alot of time and its just not a priority to look for socal networking buttons.

What are everyone elses thoughts on these buttons, the big guys just seem to get clicks (How many of you have clicked MCs Like button?) or force people to in order to use their service or offer a contest to get those clicks and that just makes the search engines think we are all truly interested in those sites. I too have considered a gift basket give away to get clicks I dont know would you click for a chance to win something.

Well we have tens of thousands of members here and what if just half of them clicked your Google +1 and Like button, well that might offer a little search engine juice. Just a suggestion after all what do I know, I only have 14 Likes and one is me. lol

Feel free to click our button and then I'll know if they even work lol
www.gbepackaging.com and www.boxesandbags.com be sure to post your url and I will click them and hopefully we all should do this. United we stand and we all have the power of the click. Why not use it.

I think its a good idea or are people just clicking your sites. Share any ideas or secrets too.

Thanks all

Dear UniqueJewlry, the Google+ social plugin is already built into your business profile page, as well as Facebook & Twitter plugins. You can also integrate your mc account with Twitter & Facebook. Here is a helpful article in our Help Center to show you how to do this: http://merchantcircle.desk.com/custom...

alot of us are disgusted with the changes. I for one only came back to comment on this post. All the things I liked are gone. All the things that made it worth the work are gone. they said they know and they did it on purpose because too many of us were getting links and they put a stop to it. MC is dead now.

Well I agree that Milwaukee businesses all have about one or two connections and never realized how MC could help them but now MC has reorganized. We also help small and large businesses by charging 40-60% less than other packaging distributors. Yes our customers buy on price and will leave us in a second for a cent or two savings and they will buy from us for years and never once click our buttons that Google is now going to use as an indicator as who is popular or not. I like to think we are also doing what we can to help businesses from closing. The real trick is to not give up and they will come.

Hi Donex,

It sounds like you have a solid approach to marketing - it's all about generating fresh, unique, relevant content, and even if you aren't sure if people are clicking on it, you can be sure that with time it will help increase your business' online visibility.

One concern that I have using merchantcircle.com is that the blog is tagged by merchantcircle.com with the "no index" and "no follow" on the hidden html meta descriptions. That tells google not to search some of the content your blog. They only thing that they scan is the title.

A good blog title will make Google search your page but it will stop short of analyzing the content since it includes the "no follow" on the code. I suggest to have your own content on a blog like workpress.com or blogger.com etc and include links to your own blog so google can crawl your blog correctly.
