Silverlight 4 breaks the SkyPlayer on Macs.

It appears that Silverlight 4 breaks the SkyPlayer on Macs. Definitely under 10.6.n and maybe under earlier versions of the operating system. A workaround is to uninstall SL4 manually then track down a Silverlight 3 installer.

The uninstall is fairly simple on pre-Snow Leopard systems, just delete everything a standard file search reveals. On post-10.6 its a little more complicated. Snow Leopard writes its receipts to a hidden folder - /var/db/receipts. 2 files need to be deleted: com.microsoft.installsilverlightplugin.bom and com.microsoft.installsilverlightplugin.plist. Again, delete everything else to do with Silverlight found under a standard file search then install Silverlight 3.

When one tries to play content on the SkyPlayer, the commercial preceding the movie plays. At the end of the commercial when the movie should start an error is displayed. I've attached a screen shot of the error message received when trying to watch normal content. Live content generates a 1501 error, normal TV 1502 and movies 1503. It almost 'feels' like a DRM problem, dunno why.

Sky player is an absolute sham. It does not work on Macs. I am paying over £80 a month for sky services and it is extremely disappointing that it fails every time. The web version of skyplayer for mac attempts to register my computer as a new computer every time I turn skyplayer on. It also states the there is a problem with my silverlight everytime I want to watch something. It will register it as the main computer then tell me that I can only watch what I want to watch on the main computer. The desktop application is laughable, I can't even get past the log in screen.

It appears that the problem is with SIlverlight. Sort it out. Ditch it or fix it I don't care I just don't want to feel as if I'm being scamed for my money.

As of now, 22/11/10, skyplayer is version-checking silverlight—insisting you upgrade to v4, at which point the error crfc2xv identified (of course!) resurfaces.
