I'm having problems downloading new maps and add-ons to my xbox 360. every time I try downloading anything from the marketplace a message keep appearing that this download is not available in your country.
I bought my xbox 360 in the US but now i live in Saudi Arabia and I know alot of my friends are experiencing the same issue. so if I live outside the US I cant use the marketplace or download important add-ons????
I went to the UK last year and I had the same problem, basicly if I wanted to download maps and game add-ons I should go back to the US.... is this fair???
I bought the game am I not entitled to get the add-ons and game maps after??????

Hi A.R.

I assume you are using a gamertag that you set up when you were in the U.S. This means you will be able to see the U.S. marketplace but not be able to download content from there. The marketplace you view is based on the country setting within the gamertag/WLID.

What you are experiencing is a restriction in place to support the contract between Microsoft and the content provider. Providers have multiple contracts, one for each region/country they wish their product to be available to. The marletplace you are using will check your physical location to determine if you can download the content or not.

To download content to your console you will need to use a gamertag that is created for the country you are in. You should then be able to purchase DLC you want from your local marketplace (assuming the content provider has a contract for that region). As the console will now have a license for that content, it will be available to your U.S. Gamertag.

Cheers

The country that I currently live at (Saudi Arabia) doesn't have a marketplace, But we still have items that are being sold by Microsoft in the region. as I was searching the internet at appears to be happening all over the world because add-on download is only availabe and licensed in the US. please I need a legit way to download content in my own country. The problem doesn't exist in other game consoles ... why does the xbox use this???
If I bought the game and the game is being sold in my country and its been licensed shouldn't I be able to get the upcoming content!

Thank you,,,

As Xbox Live is not supported in Saudi Arabia, you won't have access to all the features, such as downloading content. The Xbox 360 only launched there in April 2007 so hopefully it is just a matter of time before the service becomes available but I haven't seen any public announcements on the subject.

Downloadable content is available in countries where the owner has made it available, not just the US. There is content that is available only to US customers. Similarly there is content where the opposite applies - a recent example is the downloadable trial of a cricket sports game available to European and Australian customers.

You ask why Xbox Live operates in this way. The main reason is to allow content providers to market their products in the way the want to. An additional benefit is that local laws and regulations can be abided by.

On the back of the game case there should be a block of text headed "Xbox Live System Requirements" that details the availability of the Xbox Live service.

Full country list for Xbox Live Support is here:

i am so so so damn sick of waiting for Microsoft to hit the "On" button on their brains and make the Xbox LIVE service available for us in Saudi Arabia...there are allot of people that i know that have switched to PS3 just because of your stupidity Microsoft...like seriously it is almost been 5 YEARS since you launched the Xbox 360 in Saudi Arabia...why even launch the damn consoles before you make their service available ? it is quite unfair if you ask me...and i had to use false and fake information to use my own Xbox? seriously ? pardon but that is straight up BULLSHIT!...

maybe i should have bought a Playstation3 like my friends told me...i really should have listened to them...

The console and the service are two different products - just because the console is available, doesn't mean Xbox Live has to be.
Microsoft likes making money - it would open Xbox Live in every country in the world if it thought it was a sensible thing to do.
Look at the country list in my previous post - Chile is on there with 17 million population, for example, but much larger Argentina isn't so it's not as simple as you want to think it is.
Xbox Live will only go to countries that have legal and financial structures that allow the service to operate with purchasing on-line, local partners to work with to provide the comms, etc etc etc.
If the PSN is available there then congrats to Sony and their business model.

The country already has all the legal and financial structure needed to allow the service to operate with online market, but for some reason Microsoft isn't considering the idea

oh and Mr.John, people aren't looking to play "Singleplayer Campaign" all day and night just because Microsoft haven't thought of the idea...believe me...Microsoft will gain much much advantage if it makes its service available at the whole Middle Eastern countries not just Saudi Arabia and U.A.E...sigh.. -_-

If Microsoft hasn't released XBL yet in the Middle East, it won't be because someone hasn't yet thought of it. Just because you don't know the reasons - and it is unlikely Microsoft would publicly explain what they were - doesn't mean they haven't looked into it.

Well i hope they do something soon...i hope...i have heard rumors ...just rumors...i am not going to sell this system untill it is used dry...i mean i have bought it for 1200 S.R (Saudi Riyal) and if im going to sell it it is gonna be sold for like 700 S.R...aren't you at Microsoft Mr.John?... then suggest the one who is in-charge of the service to release it here...explain to him/her that it is just frustrating to make people wait all that time....and release it already -_-...i mean if PSN is available here then how come XBL isn't ?...

No, I'm no longer at Microsoft. I put (ex MSFT) in my name to reflect this. I don't seem to be able to remove the "Employee" status from my GetSatisfaction account.

"Pain and agony"? Seriously? I've had two Xboxes die on me with RROD and I was definitely annoyed. Feeling agonising pain? Not so much.

I forgot all about this thread, I switched to PS3 two years ago. I thought they'd fix the problem already but ... WOW, never knew they didn't care. Switch to PS3 because now I'm a happy gamer (you won't be disappointed) all the add ons released the same time in all the world. Support for Saudi Arabia, and better playing experience. So do as I did like all of my friends and make the switch

I will if they don't do something...i have spoken to their customer service and he told me he didn't know any "accurate" information....he said that he thinks that Microsoft is going to launch LIVE at U.A.E and Saudi Arabia in about 5 months or less...i am not really willing to wait that whole time but if they do not do something I WILL BUY A PS3 AND I DON'T CARE IF THEY MADE IT AVAILABLE AFTER I CHANGED!! PS3 has FREE Multiplayer unlike you slime dogs... 60$? really?..sigh...seriously if they don't do something they will have 1 less customer to worry about...
