the exact amount of delay seems to vary between zero to one millisecond...

it's been an issue for as long as i can remember, and has also persisted a recent reinstallation of Windows...

i'm currently running Windows Media Player 11.0.5721.5268 on Windows XP Professional SP3, with a Realtek AC'97 Audio soundcard, which most recent drivers are installed...

what can be done ?

Hi

Could you please clarify what you are hearing - is it skipping part of the song or delaying it's start. It isn't clear from the description?

Also, you mention a one millisecond delay - that is one thousandth of a second. Is that what you meant to write as I don't see how you would notice such a tiny delay?

Cheers

Best place to try out troubleshooting will be in the Control Panel. Open up "Sounds and Audio Devices". On the Volume tab there will be a Speaker Settings section. Click the Advanced button and choose the Performance tab. Try moving the two sliders to the left.
You can also get to this section through the Audio tab if it's not on the Volume tab. In the Sound Playback section, ensure the Default Device is correct and click the Advanced button.

Cheers

while i don't really have any idea what these properties mean to the sound system in general, it seems that reducing the hardware acceleration did the trick :)

You're not alone - I don't really know what they do either! Glad it helped.
