Microsoft Hohm makes it easier to understand your energy efficiency! Check out your Hohm score!

Microsoft Hohm is continually listening to our community of users on how we can provide value to people looking to improve their energy efficiency. One of the greatest challenges we’ve heard is that it’s difficult for people is to understand, “Am I an energy hog or an energy miser?”.

Starting today, we are excited to announce that Microsoft Hohm makes it easier for people to understand that question by providing a Hohm Score for over 60 million homes in the U.S. The Hohm Score is an estimate of a home’s energy efficiency, based on publicly available data and energy models from DOE and the Lawrence Berkeley Labs. Just by entering an address, people can see the Hohm Score for that home and compare it to regional averages and to other addresses in the U.S., to understand how energy efficient their home relative to others. By ‘claiming’ a home, people can update the Hohm Score to make it more accurate as well as receive energy saving recommendations for that specific home.

Hi MasterChallen--thanks for asking! Hohm Scores (and Hohm itself) isn't currently available outside the U.S., but we plan to make Hohm available to other countries such as Canada in the future. In the meantime, you can stay updated on Hohm by following us on Twitter or becoming a fan on Facebook. Please check back to the site for announcements when additional markets are available. We appreciate your interest and hope you'll use Hohm once it's released in Canada!

    Thanks,
    Holly

  • Im a new user and I dont see that there's enough information about the Hohm score to make it useful for me. Ive added all the info I can in the advanced profile and manually entered energy usage for 2 yrs.

My Hohm score is 20% lower than the average in my area, but my energy consumption (measured in dollars) is quite a bit less than the average. So Im confused by the lower comparative Hohm score.

Hi wrayre--thanks for the feedback! Hohm Scores are calculated by comparing your home's estimated and potential energy efficiency, rather than energy consumption in dollars. (We estimate your energy use based on data you have given us about your home or with publicly available info about your home and compare that to your home's potential for energy efficiency, calculated based on data from the Department of Energy.) It could be possible that, while you’re paying less than the average person in your area, your home has more potential for efficiency improvements. If you do think there’s an error, please feel free to send your Live ID (that you sign in with, not your password) to hohmpriv@microsoft.com, and we'll investigate! Thanks again for the question!
      Thanks,
      Holly
