BEATMIX Transitions HELP!!!

I am having alot of trouble 8meas beatmixing songs that do not have "normal" 4/4 intros / outros. Is there an easy way to do these transitions (I am creating workout mixes that require precise transitions)? Thanks!

  • Yes, beat mixing a non-4/4 beat can be difficult. Can you be a bit more specific about your troubles?

    Do beats drift away?
Are the tracks beat matched correctly? (check with the metronome measure - maybe you'll need to tweak manually).
Are you using tracks with beatless intros or with a different 3/4 measure or so?
Is there a lot of difference in tempo between tracks?

Thank you for your response! Yes, the issue is where song #2 has either a non-standard tempo or beatless into. I try cropping song #2 to where the standard beat begins and then lay it down where the outro anchor of song #1 lines up with into anchor of song #2 but it is really difficult to place them exactly at the 32 beat mark. Is there a timeline tool that I can use to specify exactly where I want these marks to hit? Thanks again for your help!

  • Before anything else, what version do you use? MM Express, MM Studio or MM Fusion?

If you have Studio or Fusion you can use "tweaks" to manually change the beat markers that MM creates when scanning the track (it's called the song slicer I believe).

Select (highlight) "song #2", then down at the bottom-left you can switch between VSTs and the song slicer (2 icons: one straight lines, one wavy lines (see: http://mixmeister.com/screen_mmstu7.html)).

If you use MM Express then I think you are out of luck, AFAIK Express doesn't have the song slicer but I'm not sure about that (as I'm a Studio user, never used Express).

  • Hi Roland. I use MM Studio Version 7.4.4.0. You are right--the key was this: I first save an initial measure marker as a tweak in song #2. Then I manually place the outro anchor for song #1 on the timeline. Then I manually set the intro anchor for song #2 on the timeline and it transitions perfectly. I think the original problem was that I was using the preset "Beatmix 8" transitions for all songs which does not necessarily catch the right phrasing with complicated intros. Thanks for all your help!

  • Hi Jim,

    Glad I could help :)

Yes, "difficult" tracks pretty much always need manual adjustment; MM is good, but not that good ;-) The thing is, if you can make such a difficult transition work, it most likely will result in an interesting mix and that makes it worth while ;-)

    Good luck en enjoy mixing.
