tempo change too noticeable

Hi I have noticed that the tempo speeds up and slows down too noticeably on the transitions. How do I adjust it so its more gradual? mixmeister studio.

  • Hi Ben,

Try to reposition the tempo markers (below the track visualization).

Normally you'd have a tempo marker near the start of the transition - this one should be (close to) the tempo of the track that is currently playing. Try to put the next tempo marker (that belongs to the track you want to mix) near the end of the transition.

The tempo change should follow a linear curve, so the longer the transition, the more gradual it will sound.

Btw, how far apart are the tracks in terms of bpm? Larger tempo changes obviously will result in one track playing way too fast or slow :)

  • if you're shifting more than a few bpm (+/- 5 at most) in either direction over the space of one transition, it's probably best to just to drop the new track in and not worry about a lengthy transition which will either grate or sound hectic.

If it's done properly it can work very very well, but you have to get the build of tension right or it'll just sound like you made a mistake.

Or just drop in new tempo markers onto the timeline, bumping the speed up in increments. It really does depend on, how much the bpm is shifting, and in what timeframe you expect it to happen.

  • I agree with heathen.

I've tried it before, such large bpm shifts; Dave Seaman's - Gobbledygook (Funkagenda Repulse remix) (120+ bpm) to Conjure One's Center Of The Sun (Solarstone's Chilled-Out remix) (< 100bpm) needed a lot of tweaking; I'm OK with the result I got, but it's far from the best you'll ever heard ;-)

ps: if you're curious, you can listen to it here http://www.mixcloud.com/digitalnative... - skip to the final two tracks).
