  • Hey there, I think I can be of help. There's a few tricks involved.

Firstly, you just always run mixmeister with all drives/music available, else you'll get intro trouble with the library, using my method.

Install Mixmeister as usual and let it only search under one directory on the C drive:

    (tools/options/library -> [v] Automatically update...

Select where you keep music on the local drive: C:\MMROOT (for example)

    Disconnect your USB drive.

Now create an *empty* directories on the C drive. Call it

    C:\MMUSB

or similar. Make sure it stays empty Add this directory to the library

Now, connect your USB drive. It will get a drive letter, note which it is. Go to disk management (start/run and enter diskmgmt.msc)

Right click on the partition with the USB drive letter and select "change drive letter and paths"

You'll see "Allow access to this volume by following drive letters and paths"

    Delete the drive letter (remove)

    Now press add:

Instead of choosing "assign a drive letter..." choose "mount in the follow empty NTFS folder"

Hit browse and select your C:\MMUSB directory, hit OK and close disk management.

From now on, when you connect the USB disk, it won't appear in a drive letter but it will be visibile *under c:\mmusb*

The trick is to do the same on the other computer - you set up the same way - how?

install mixmeister clean on the new computer (please run the same version of windows. Don't mix XP/7/Vista)

On the old computer you need to export the configuration. It is in 2 places. Registry and under the %appdata% folder.

Close mixmeister. (be sure there is nothing on the timeline before you close)

In the registry, go to local machine/software/mixmeister technology. Export this key as a .reg file.

Go to start/run and type %appdata% - under this is a folder "Mixmeister technology" - copy it (ZIP it is my favorite way)

On the new computer, close the freshly installed mixmeister (be sure there is nothing on the timeline before you close)

Double click the .reg file you made before. Go to %appdata% and unpack the zip/copy the files from the old computer.

Do the same procedure with the C:\MMUSB trick as before.

Now you have 2 mixmeisters, identically installed, checking the same folders.

    Run mixmeister, have fun :)

Now make sure you have all the data in c:\MMUSB perfectly in sync with a backup disk, when needed.

If the time comes that your main disk crashes, and you need to put the second USB disk in the C:\MMUSB map? Do this:

Delete the C:\MMUSB map. Recreate it. Then do the disk manager thing again.

    Hope this helps...

  • Thanks for the advice, I'll try it this weekend, as for the side note, mixing is not too popular here in central Iowa so basically most djs are human jukeboxes. Thanks again!!!!
