Problems importing files to library

Please help! I've just bought a new pc running windows 8.1 and have installed Mixmeister Sudio 7. I've tried to import my files to the library by dragging and also by using the library import option but nothing happens, i.e. the files aren't importing. They do import, however, if I drag them directly into the playlist window.

What do I need to do to get them to import directly to the library? They used to work fine when I was running Mixmeister on my old pc using Windows 7.

Any help offered would be gratefully receievd,

Many thanks

  • Further to my previous post. I have been able to import some files when I run Mixmeister as an administrator but the files I have imoprted aren't displaying the keycode. My slider is also missing from the software and it was making an annoying piano sound every time i clicked in the display window, although I solved this by deleting the miditemplates file.

Is 7.6.1.1 version full of bugs. My old 7.4 version ran perfectly on my windows 7 system. Is there any way of going back to the old version?

    Thanks

  • Hi

Yes, I am now running version 7.7.0.1 but still have exactly the same issues. I have contacted Mixmeister but they haven't provided an answer so far, only to say that they have tested the 7.7 version and on some pcs it works fine but on other pcs, with windws 8, they are getting the same issues as I am. That was 4 weeks ago and I haven't heard from them since!

  • Hm, sorry to see you still have the problem. You say you've tried using the library import option. Does it happen regardless if you choose to import single files (you can select multiple files here!) or import folders?

If you right-click any imported file (to your playlist) and select 'properties', does it show the keycode / file location / things like that?

Do you import files from a network location (NAS for example), USB drive or from a local drive (C:\, D:\ etc)? Try importing from a local drive.

Other than that, I have no idea.

I can import single files using the import option but not whole folders. I cannot import files by dragging from my music folder direct into the library either. Sometimes, when I try to import whole folders, it works but most of the time Mixmeister crashes and I have to restart. All my files are imported from local drive C. Once in the library, I can use the files as normal although I have noticed that the volume settings aren't working properly either. For example, in Mixmeister 7.4 I could slow fade to no sound but in Mixmeister 7.7 it fades until a certain point and then suddenly cuts off, making fade-outs impossible. It certainly has some glitches that need sorting. The lack of response is frustrating too as I use Mixmeister all the time for work and I'm stuck without it!

    Thanks for your interest :)

    • I was fairly hesitant too as I was worried that my programmes (including MixMeister) wouldn't work but I've had no problems at all, the upgrade couldn't have been smoother and it certainly seems to have helped the sound issues although not the import issues. Having said that, as my pc is only a few months old it hasn't got that much stuff on it and there weren't that many programmes to transfer. As the old saying goes; if it ain't broke don't fix it!

  • same problem here with 7.7 on a PC. drag and drop of files into the mixmeister window gives a popup that says importing, but then the file is nowhere to be found in the library.

using the import single file option works fine, either with a single file or highlighting multiple files.

using the import folder option crashes mixmeister when there are more than a handful of tracks within the folder.

  • I have been in touch with MixMeister who are aware of this issue, although it only appears to be happening on a few pcs and they don't know why. They tested 10 pcs and only one had the problems we are having. They've been looking into this for a few months now. I will update this post as soon as I get an answer.

  • I’m frustrated
    Hi all,

I know this is an old topic, I ran mixmeister 7.4 for years until my computer crashed and I lost everything.

I approached mixmeister and they were kind enough to upgrade me to 7.7.0.1. It seems to work fine on one of my P.C.s but on the other, I have endless issues with the iLok software which behaves like malware.

When I try importing a folder, mixmeister crashes, no matter what size the folder is.

I have tried adding files by watching folders and also have had no success.

    • Don't know, in my experience the 'Import from folder' option always crashes in MM Studio 7.7 regardless if the folder contains sub-folders or not. You could give it a try of course.
    • I've tried folders resident to the laptop, on the desktop, and on the laptop... it crashed there....

  • Hello all

I started this topic months ago and still have the same issues although I can force the files to load if I keep trying, i.e. it can crash 8 times but import on the 9th attempt. I contacted Mixmeister and was told that they had replicated the fault on one pc but ten other pc's worked fine. The guy I contacted said that he had passed the issue to the development team. This was months ago and still no news. I've chased and chased but get no response other than 'thanks for reaching out...' The last contact I had was in Sept. There's obviously an issue with certain pcs running Mixmeister that needs to be fixed. It's incredibly frustrating getting no response or being ignored. If anybody else has some answers, it'd be very much appreciated. I'm in the exact same position as Gavin; ran 7.4 fine for a long time, got a new pc due to hard drive failure on my old pc. Updated to 7.7.0.1 and then got these issues. I asked if I could install 7.4 but Mixmeister said they didn't have that version avaiable anymore. I feel your pain; wouldn't be so bad if I could get some response from Mixmeister themselves.

    Cheers

Hi again, Firstly, adding folders as "watched" has seemingly resolved my import issue. I am not sure if this forum is hosted by mixmeister or not, but either way, I am going to be brutally honest because that is my way.

    1) I ran MM 7.4 for years without any trouble, but was very curious as to why there were NEVER any updates and I did check regularly.

    2) I did say earlier, that MM were kind enough to upgrade me to 7.7.0.1 so I don't want to seem ungrateful, although there seems to me little difference between the two versions.

    3) I am uncomfortable with change, I like what I am used to. There are so many other applications available to do the same work, perhaps I'm guilty of being a dinosaur. In this review [ http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/t... ] MM did not even feature ! In the course of writing this response, I have just downloaded Mixx which is free.

    4) Due to the lack of updates, I began to feel that MM was becoming obsolete, this feeling has been reinforced of late, since there have been no further updates since 7.7, which as I said, is not much of an upgrade over 7.4.........

    5) I have come to believe that MM was bought out or acquired as part of another deal. Due to the awesome competition, the company that acquired them has decided to put development on hold......and to flog the dead horse that they now have in their stable !

    6) This, I think is the reason why there has been little, if any response to Phil's post of some months ago.

So, having said that, and disliking the iLok malware intensely, here are a couple of solutions that I am considering.....:

    1) Reverting to 7.4, I know that MM say they don't have that version anymore, but it IS freely available on many hacker sites, and since I have paid for it, I have absolutely NO qualms about going this route.

    2) Moving on, if MM is only flogging their dead horse, what benefit will there be by continuing to hold onto a sinking/sunken ship. Eventually the software will become obsolete.

As of now, I am looking at other options........

  • Within Mixmeister 7.7.0.1 library issues:

    File....Add files to the library....
You can add a single file or folder, that works.

Drag and drop music in the tracklist of the mix (top right) : works
And the track is then also in the library list. (top left) : works
The music may not carry a copy protection or it will not work.
If there is no read/write access on the music folder: import fails.

Sure windows10 64 bit : keycodes in Mixmeister studio are not shown.
They appear on 7.4.4 and Mixmeister Fusion trail shows them too.
I try to classify this as bug (was working on 7.4.4)

64bit OS, so 64 bit Pace Ilok , Mixmeister installs the 32 bit version.
If it runs ok but otherwise remove the 32 bit version of Ilok manager
and install the 64 bit version, download only from the Pace website !!

*warning* on hacker sites, high risk that you import trojan horses simply cause you start an installer. it can lead to problems not caused by Mixmeister but where Mixmeister doesn't operate stable.

    Stay away from those sites.

As usual, windows up-to-date, drivers up-to-date (sure chipset and audio)

The missing keycodes is a pita but at least the rest works at this moment on windows10 professional 64 bit.

  • Note: crashing.

this can happen on computers that you use for daily use and sure when using cracked versions and I don't mean cracked Mixmeister but other software. In that case: You sure know what to do.

usual computers are filled with applications and excuse me but if you want to work stable, then stock to a computer with limited functions, for example Mixmeister+DAW+Microsoft Office: OK
    But avoid 3D Games.

Crashes are normal in case of driver problems or hardware problems.
If A crash occurs, look in the windows logbooks cause they can give a hint what the cullprit is.

  • Since my post, I've given up with contacting MM directly. There's been no response from them at all, despite my persistent enquiries. I've managed to come up with some work-arounds that mean I can use the software but it's not like it used to be. MM are fully aware of these issues yet continue to sell the software to unsuspecting punters; I think that's a disgrace. I've looked at alternative software that can do exactly what MM can, i.e. mix multiple tracks using a visual timeline so that edits and samples can be layered and mixed together but I can't seem to see anything that can offer the same. Any suggestions would be welcome, if anyone can point me in the right direction. Cheers chums.

  • Hi Phil,

I agree that a more customer-focused approach would help MM tremendously. Effective communication is, after all, an essential element in any healthy relationship. :-) Acknowledging and publishing a list of known issues would be a good start, and help to establish a baseline from which everyone can operate. The situation is frustrating, as new buyers are unnecessarily left in the dark, but as you say, there are no obvious alternatives on the market that offer the same level of functionality and relative ease of use.

Have you visited mixingonbeat.com to research any MM issues? They have a pretty extensive MM section, and I have found the contributions in that forum to be very informative. The moderators at MOB seems to have more inside knowledge about MM, both in terms of the software's functionality and the organizations mindset. It's worth a visit if you haven't been.

That said, I do have questions pertaining to your technical issues. I've read all of the posts in this thread and am curious to know if your original post still reflects the problems you're having with the software. Other than the keycode and folder import issues (which are persistent), did any of the suggestions help? I'm curious to know if the import works on your machine if you add tracks to a folder that's been added to the library auto-update list. Also, can you successfully import tracks if you select the single folder option then highlight multiple files?

  • Same here, since I updated my OS to Win10 it got even (a bit) worse (now I can't even properly set VST parameters as knob changes using the mouse pointer won't work reliably .. and using a midi keyboard that has additional knobs won't work either).

Anyway, maybe I'm too optimistic (or just foolish), I keep trying to be supportive in the hope that whoever owns Mixmeister nowadays finds the decency to either continue developing the software properly or to honestly say "sorry people, this is it".

I have bought MM Studio a long time ago when it was still (reasonably) in development (v7.0 I believe) and at that time it was worth every penny. Now, I struggle with the fact that people have to pay $200,- ...

About alternative software that can do the same: the only software that I know of is Ableton Live. You can load songs and place them on a timeline. In Ableton there's a "warping" function, which can be set to basically work the same as beatmatching (grid) in MM. When I bought an Alesis midi keyboard I got Ableton Live 9 Lite for free which supports warping tracks so I gave it a try. It works pretty much the same as in MM, however warping has to be done manually most of the time (time consuming) and warping did produce more sound artifacts (pops, clicks) than MM does (but maybe I was using the wrong type of warping, I don't know). And Ableton is not cheap as well ..

    Cheers.

ps: at last there's a new website, but that really doesn't make up for it ...

  • Better, Mixmeister should test their software on a 64bit platform.

With 32 bit OS less problems then under 64bit and windows10.

I've updated I-tunes, funny.... now inserting I-tunes audio does not work anymore.
if this functionality is within mixmeister, this means that mixmeister has to test
their software also with the most recent I-tunes version and complain to Apple
if they do something again that ruins the import.

But since I moved from studio to Fusion, at least got the keyvcodes back.

    Well, it should be.

  • Firstly, folks, can I say what a great thread. It's refreshing to read a thread that hasn't degenerated into a slanging match, so thank you for all your help and advice.

I will certainly look at the posts on mixingonbeat, so thanks for that suggestion. In regards to importing files, I can force through whole folders if I keep trying although the majority of times MM will crash. I've managed to import all my music this way and I've now linked my folders to the library, so when I add a file to a folder it automatically gets added to my MM library. I can also import single files by using the import single file option, however, I still can't drag and drop files into the library.

My biggest bugbear though is the sound quality. The levels are all over the place and it still doesn't sound fade like it should which is very annoying when mixing certain tracks. Trying to get equal sound volume is very hard so I really like the idea of using software to equal out the volume on my mp3 files,

I did think about Ableton but it looked really complicated.

Anyways, thanks again, this has all been really helpful.

    All the best :)

  • The only reason i love MM is that i can use Waves audio and other plugins on the Tracks and Master OUTPUT !!! and it's super easy to do a mix without having to to get ready and make a mix with cdj's / contollers /ableton . I do have the crashing issue with MM when importing folders , but i use the single option then highlight the files then it imports them with no issues .

  • I recognize all the issues that everyone here has mentioned. I encountered them as well on my 64bit Windows 10.

As I also wasn't too happy about the output quality after saving a MM mix to an MP3 or WAV file, I decided to buy Platinum Notes (from the makers of Mixed in Key. It's not cheap; $98 but to me it seams a proper investment to get high quality audio mixes.

The program does not touch the original files in your library/folders but creates a new folder where it saves all the optimized mp3 files and the same volume.

Tip: first let platinum notes optimize all your files and then import them in your library. If you create a mix and want to replace the original mp3 files with the new optimized mp3 files, you'll notice in MM that cue points have changed and audio volume has changed etc etc. so you can start all over again re-configuring your mix.

  • Hi All

Not sure if this thread is dead but..

I came across this because I too was having the issue for something I paid good money for.

whilst doing so i came across a a thread and someone else was having this issue with mm express.

To fix it they right clicked on the mm icon and ran as administrator. once i did that i managed to upload a 18gb folder of mp3 in one go using the upload folder option wooohooooo

i hope this too works for someone else

    Peace.

  • Starting an application with administrator rights mean always a higher security risk.

    I 'have double boot windows10 64 bit and windows 10 32 bit.
Since mixmeister is running on 32bit even studio keycodes back , but i'm using fusion now which had keycodes back on 64 bit and no import problem.

Note: windows update could ruin 32 bit apps anytime on 64 bit windows
and do'n forget, while windows 64 bit has 32 bit support is not the same as a 32 bit OS. Also drivers can get ruined since windows 10 tries to trickle dricves in fault mode so disable the driver in future use.

Note: sure, Windows can be tweaked but any tweak hates windows update.

No mixmeister versions store a backup MP3.
They only store a .mxm that holds track plot data, key codes and BPM of the track so that this has not to be recalculated again after mixmsiter restart.
Any mixmeister app from express to fusion load always the original MP3, if the MP3 is low quality, mixmeister will not fix that.

So MXM files are always smaller the MP3 files.
No backup of mp3 , only archive of MXM under roam1ng folder.
