Fix for: Mouse clicks sometimes get stuck in Windows 8.1 & Windows 10.

  • Updated 5 years ago

In Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 machines where the reg key LowLevelHooksTimeout is set, users may have an issue with mouse clicks frozen for few seconds in the remote machine. A fix is available to resolve this issue and in progress to be published to Microsoft Download Center. In the meantime you can help do some testing with a private build at http://1drv.ms/1IjAUyR

Thanks!

It didn't fix it for me (v2.1.5.1015 on both boxes - Win 10 and Win 7). If I click apply I can click the mouse in the Win 7 "slave" (ie the PC without a mouse attached) for a few seconds but then it stops working again. Everything else apart from clicking works - buttons change color on hover, wheel-scrolling works... it's just clicking.

For what it's worth, if I plug the mouse into the Win 7 box and the keyboard into the Win 10 box, everything seems to work fine. So it seems to only be an issue with Win 10 as the "master" (it all worked flawlessly before I upgraded from 7 to 10 on this box).

Reg key not present, build 1015 on both clients. Did not fix issue. Mouse gets stuck on the left edge of the screen, able to move up and down only. If you do a super fast scroll, the mouse cursor will move to the center of the screen, but immediately moves back to the left edge. Unable to regain control of mouse on "home" computer without hitting CAD to force a takeover.

Same setup with one exception, both PCs are Windows 10.  MWB 2.1.5.1015 on both machines.
Works fine if mouse is plugged into the HP.  But if the mouse is plugged into the Surface 3 Pro, then I get the exact same symptom as @pengy.

I can recover the mouse if I reach over to the touchpad on the HP and move it back over to the Surface via MWB.

Seems to have fixed the slow mouse issue in certain apps. Still have the below issue occasionally on my two machines running Win 10:

Do something on computer that has mouse/keyboard

Mouse over to other machine

Mouse appears to be detected, hover states on buttons work, but it does not register clicks I have to mouse back over to the other machine and click a few times there and then it works.

For your information, the above build does not fix the other issue where the mouse clicks do not work in the remote machine (where mouse moves work fine). Some users found that an existence of another Mouse Hook program in the primary machine would cause this issue, for ex.: iPoint (Mouse and Keyboard Center)

The root cause is due to a bug in an Windows API, we will keep you updated.

Just to add to this issue (i.e. Parent Win 10 Pro Upgrade - mouse/keyboard hooked into, child Win 7 Ult SP 1), in my case the mouse movements between both interfaces are fine but it seems that when the mouse has focus/has clicked on a Win 10 item (whether icon or open app), the mouse does not allow clicks on the child (Win 7). If I go back to the Win 10 desktop and click on the desktop and go back, all is fine. HTH diagnose the issue.
Thanks to the Garage crew for all their great work...
BTW...will try latest version to see if fixes

Sorry, I was talking about everything working apart from actual clicking. I only had Mouse without Borders installed on the primary machine (it was a brand new clean Win 10 install - not an upgrade) and Mouse without Borders was practically the first application I installed because I only had one mouse within reach at that time and I was getting bored repeatedly switching the bluetooth receiver between the computers!

ShareMouse seems to work (albeit intermittently) but I much prefer your app so please make it work. :) I had it on a 2x Win 7 setup and it worked absolutely flawlessly for ages.

Did you run the tool in a Virtual machine or a remote desktop session? Which is not supported.

We have a newer version (2.1.5.1016) at http://1drv.ms/1Pz6cXN where it may fix the issue where clicks do not work in the remote machine when the primary machine has some other programs with input hook installed.

This is working great for me after about 4 hours of steady use. Two Windows 10 clean install machines. Custom built as primary, Surface Pro 2 as secondary. The primary does have Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center.

I have also had a VPN and Remote Desktop session open on the primary computer for this duration.

If I find there are issues, I'll update this post.

@panzerchris : Keeping this option unchecked would help on the focus-switching problem:

Make sure to update to the latest version just released to Microsoft Download Center.

I have the new version on my Surface 2 Pro with W10 10586.164.  My problem is (I think) the MWB app (1.2.0.1 according to ResMon) that I have found for my Surface 2 RT with 8.2.  Maybe the app needs to be updated to be compatible with this new version?  I can work around quite a bit but it is not as flexible or complete as I would like or expect.
