too many pop-ups

I have had Mozilla Firefox for YEARS. Over the past week or so, it has unexpectedly crashed on me MANY times. It is also generating pop-ups in a Firefox full window CONSTANTLY. I do not want to use IE but I'm going to have to if this isn't fixed. The window comes up indicating that it is sending details of the crashes to you and if I want a response via email to check the box. Done...again MANY times. Why is this happening? I have NEVER had pop-up issues or crash issues. And why haven't I received my email explaining what is happening and how to fix it?

While I like Nivekian's idea to check for spyware since it could be launching the popups, I also wanted to mention that you will usually NOT get an e-mail about your crash report. However, if you open about:crashes (in the location bar), you can get your crash ids and paste them to me, wherein I can then look at them and see if I can determine what the crasher is.

Another new evil is flash based popups, where a tiny and invisible flash application launches a popup. Firefox cannot currently protect against these, and IE doesn't either. However, if you install FlashBlock, instead of executing flash it will display a "play" icon which you push. This will stop flash popups, as well as flash ads and youtube videos. You can, of course, whitelist sites like YouTube or DailyMotion and then it will always play from YouTube without having to click the FlashBlock play icon. This may also help you.

I've done both of the above and I'm still having pop-ups. Firefox hasn't crashed now for several hours and that's good. The pop-ups make the screen I'm looking at blink quickly and when I look down there is a new window with the pop-up minimized. They are ALL full screen, Mozilla Firefox pop-ups.

Any other suggestions?

Can you post the crash report ids I asked for in my previous reply?

Thomas, it hasn't crashed since I posted my complaint. Typical but I'm happy about that.

What I continue to be unhappy about are the Mozilla Firefox pop-ups. I now have four pop-up blockers downloaded to my computer and nothing seems to stop them.

Firefox isn't launching the popups, and apparently spybot didn't find the spyware launching them. I prefer Ad Aware, let it do a very thorough search to make sure it finds everything.

I downloaded Ad Aware and ran a full scan. Nothing found and I'm still getting the pop-ups. However, again, at least the ISP hasn't crashed now for a couple of days!!! I really wish I could find a way to get rid of the pop-ups.

Can you take and post some screenshots of these popups so we can see what we're dealing with?

I'd be happy to. However, I'm an average computer user and I don't know how to take screen shots. Can you explain how to do it? I would appreciate it!!!

It's probably easiest for you to use GrabUp, it's a really popular app in the Mozilla developer community.

Here are three of the most recent pop-up URLs that I've received. I'm sorry, I cannot figure out to grab an image using GrabUp. I hope that this information helps you figure out what is going on. Like I said previously, my screen blinks and there appears in my minimized tray a variety of pop-up ads that, when I open them are advertisements showing the Mozilla Firefox icon in the upper left corner.

Omg, I am having the the very exact and the same popups are popping up. Also my cursor keeps jumping back while typing. I hope is some one can figure this out. I also have all this pop up blockers and virius scanners on my computer and it is still happening. Fire fox also closes itself all the time which puts a hinder on my online work. I do know how to take screen shots if needed.

Great...I mean crap!!! Dorothy, if you can take screen shots of the pop-ups and post them here Thomas seems to be someone that can help us. I'm not having the cursor issues and I don't know what I did that fixed Firefox from crashing all the time but whatever it was I've been good for 2 whole days now....no crashes. The pop-ups are super irritating, though!!!

The URLs prove you've got spyware. Did you update the definitions in Ad Aware before you ran the FULL scan (not the quick scan)?

Can you explain what your talking about re: updating the definitions in Ad Aware? I did do a full scan but I didn't do anything prior to that. I just opened Ad Aware and checked setting and I see that there is a Software and definitions file update and the box checked is the download and install updates automatically. I also just ran a Spyware Doctor and it didn't find anything either.

FYI, I deleted all the spyware, AdAware, etc. that I had downloaded and I haven't gotten a pop-up since. I'm wondering if it is because I also removed IE from my computer....interesting!
