This can be done I believe using MCD. If you are interested in this Pierrot, please ask on the tb-enterprise mailing list:

I TOTALLY agree with Pierrot ...

& Roland ... the company may SAY that MCD answers the question, but it doesn't...

installed TB3, couldn't kill "smart" folders using all the collective advice gleaned from several days on these forums and went back to TB2

"smart" folders are STILL with us here after several MONTHS of protracted war against them... again using all the collective advice of these forums ...

we have eight email addresses here ... this stupid "innovation" has made keeping things straight with these accounts a living H * E * L * L

(Please note the name of the fiery place was flagged as objectionable for a family site )...

we need a switch / checkbox to shut this "feature" down completely.. or failing that, a method to completely disable the mixing of our multiple accounts that WORKS ...

& PLEASE... save the pep talks about how wonderful smart folders are and how you can "just switch views" and other glee club horse leavings...

Does it SOUND like we're happy?????????????????????

  • You don't need to "kill" Smart Folders, just select the view you want using "View->Folders->[desired view]". It's "sticky", so your folders will be displayed in that view until you change the view.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Smart Folders, either -- but some people say it makes managing their email easier. To each, his own, I guess....

  • I too find the new "Smart Folders" to be really irritating. One of the things that programmers tend to forget is that each new "feature" adds complexity not only to the software but to the use of a product. Thunderbird is no exception. The older "classic" display was the simple without "features" and without "themes". It was what is currently displayed when Thunderbird is opened in "Safe Mode". There needs to be a "switch" in the "Tools" ,"Display", "Formatting" to revert to the folder display of the older versions of Thunderbird.

I several email accounts. The number of "key strokes" or "mouse clicks" that are now required to clear the "received mail" notification flag on the Windows task bar has increased. The ability to cleanly organize my accounts and information has become more complex. I am committed to Thunderbird, but I am still irritated at the hubris of the programmers in not realizing that not everyone shares their view of "functionality".

  • Very much agree with you , Roy ... the only real benefit of having a whole mess of features to choose from comes when you can pick just what you WANT to use and shut off all the rest ... Default choices that can't be turned off are not what open source is about ...

Since this thread was marked as "Answered" ... (?????) ..... nothing was happening here... Of course, that was doing nothing to solve our issues ... so we started another thread ...

    Take a look at ...

A LOT of helpful information over there... I'm not saying we've got it all sorted out just yet, but you should find plenty to help you along over there ...
