  • 1. I am using Panda 2010 virus software.
    2. My ISP is Comcast and my mail service provider is also Comcast
    3. email protocol is POP
    4. My server settings are:
    Incoming
    server name - mail.comcast.net
    port number - 110
    connection security - STARTTLS
    Do not use secure authentication.
    username: bkwmn@comcast.net

    Outgoing Server (SMTP)
    smtp.comcast.net
    operating system is Windows 7
    Thunderbird version - 3.0.2
add-ons/extensions you have installed - only the import/export tool
    username - same as above

1.Thunderbird attempted an automatic update that failed.
    2. It then did a full install and my mail no longer worked. Thunderbird cannot access either the incoming or outgoing server.
    3. I did an uninstall of the product and reinstalled it twice.
    4. It worked the second time. I don't know why. I was able to use my mail account.
    5. I left the computer. When I accessed my mail later in the day, it no longer worked.
    6. I have attempted the uninstall and re-install a couple of timed to no avail.
    7. I get an error about a firewall incompatibility between Panda and Windows that I never got before the failure of the automatic update.
    8. I also got an error about a corrupted file that went away when the reinstall worked. I did not write it down.

  • I thought I posted this, but am not sure if it went through so I'm going to post my information again ... here are my details ...

    Anti-virus is Panda 2010
    ISP is Comcast
    Mail Service Provider is Comcast
    E Mail Protocol is POP
    Incoming server - mail.comcast.net
    Port - 110
    Connection security - STARTTLS
    unchecked use secure authentication

    Outgoing Server - smtp.comcast.net
Operating system - Windows 7 professional
    Thunderbird version - 3.0.2
    add-ons/extensions you have installed - import/export tools

    Problem -
Thunderbird attempted an automatic update that failed.
It then did a full update.
    My e-mail immediately stopped working.
Thunderbird is unable to access my incoming and outgoing servers.

I tried these settings suggested in one of the Mozilla Messaging topics - but they did not work:

    Server Name: mail.comcast.net
    Port: 995
    Connection Security: SSL/TLS
    Uncheck- Use secure authentication

    Outgoing
    Server: smtp.comcast.net
    Port: 587
    User Name
    Secure Authentication: No
    Connection Security: STARTTLS

    I tried re-installing the product - nothing.
I un-installed the product and re-installed and e-mail worked. (yay)

I logged off the computer and when I logged in again, I was no longer able to use my e-mail.

I have since un-installed and re-installed to no avail.

    I am frustrated.

  • Total frustration ... the settings that worked 17 hours ago no longer work. It seems that once I get Thunderbird to work, it only works if my computer does not go to sleep.

    Thunderbird was working last night.
I logged off. I leave my CPU on and my monitor off.
    I logged in this afternoon.
    Thunderbird cannot communicate with comcast.

    Grrr.

  • Okay - just checked my Panda firewall and it seems that Thunderbird was set to custom permissions. Just changed it to allow inbound and outbound and things seem to work now.

I am just so confused as to how an upgrade to a working product caused this. Why did the port have to change? And Thunderbird always worked with my Panda firewall before the upgrade ... I'm not a techie - I never even looked at the firewall pane before today.

When there is an upgrade, it might make sense to leave the old version available for re-installation if the upgrade doesn't work. Think about it. To be honest - I see absolutely no difference between what I was using and the new 3.02. I ran into a whole lot of problems for nothing,

  • The problem was not TB the problem was the change of firewall settings in Panda.
    BTW, not convinced on 3.0.3

Hi Donna: Glad you got it working on Thunderbird 3.0.2. Just curious: did the problem occur during an upgrade from 3.0.1 or 3.0 to 3.0.2 or from 2.0.0.23 to Thunderbird 3.0.2? If your firewall keys on a specific version of Thunderbird then that makes sense that it would stop working when you upgraded.

Hi Dokes: If you have a similar but different problem please start a new topic (my apologies if you did start a new topic, Get Satisfaction has lost some users' history so can't find all old topics, please reply with a link)
