I’m frustrated

Embedded email images slow to load

Have just installed the latest version of Thunderbird 2 (2.0.0.23) on one of our networked laptops (XPP SP3) then moved Profile to the network server. The profile has two accounts - one is IMAP which is working perfectly - the other is a POP account which is the one giving me problems. The laptop is synchronized to the server using Windows. I then migrated Eudora mail onto the Profile using TB's import option (also tried using another importing program). I have done this many times before for other machines on our network without any problems but this time I am having problems with VERY slow loading of images in embedded in emails - in fact some emails lock up the program. I have tried changing View>Message Body as>Original HTML to Simple HTML which solves the problem but this defeats the purpose of using Thunderbird - I want to see embedded images. I have unloaded and replaced TB three times now to try and solve the problem but keep coming up with the same issue. Interestingly sometimes the images load quickly as they should but upon closing and reopening the program the same problem arises. I have also tried putting the profile back in Documents and settings on the laptop where TB is running. I am using exactly the same settings in this profile as I use in all our other machines which do not have this problem. Is there a fix for this?

How many idiots does it take to make a good program a piece of junk! Thunderbird is incredibly slow in loading images, I can take a nap in the time it takes. I need to have a program that works efficiently and at least relatively quickly.

  • I’m really, even more so upset!
I think this is a serious issue and I'd suggest it is posted under a number of different topics in the forum. Everyone has a different way of phrasing it. HELLO!! Does anyone look at these forum questions?

Thanks for your support Walter. You'll note that under the Mozillaline forum ( http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtop...) I have have been bashing away at this for some time now. I agree with you that this topic comes up under different titles and, like you, I am stunned that no-one seems to know what to do about it. I read and checked out the "fix" suggested by "wsm" in that forum and - I gotta tell you - if running TB means you have to also be a programmer and IT guru what's the point - may as well just use MS Outlook and be done with it - at least it works most of the time. TB was a great idea once and I don't mind helping out and sharing ideas but when things get as complex as what "wsm" suggests you'd have to think the programmers have lost their way.

And yes, who the hell monitors this so called "Get Satisfaction" forum?

  • I’m waiting on someone to notice!
    I'm gonna try their suggestions,

    But REALLY!

If others use the the WinAPI, then stick with it. It works after all! I need software that works well and reasonably quickly. I don't really care if XUL makes it easier for developers, sorry! I need to make a living and waiting on the images to load is too long. The time involved to send a single promotional email is excruciating.

I am having a problem with embedded images not displaying in my email messages with TB 20.0.0.21. I have scoured the Internet and done everything recommended but no luck. I have loaded TB on a laptop with Win XPP. I tried to update to TB 3 and it worked fine but still no images displayed. I went back and reloaded TB 2 but still no images. This is getting very frustrating.

Having given up on TB many months ago due to this issue can I make a suggestion to anyone who visits this thread from now on?

INSTALL POSTBOX and all your problems will be solved. Go to: http://www.postbox-inc.com/.

For light users there is a free version (Postbox Express) and for heavy users pay a (small) fee for Postbox. You can migrate TB to Postbox in seconds (mail, attachments, address book etc) - its all built in - and many major Add-ons will work in Postbox too ie. Lightning. The UI is almost exactly the same as TB - in fact better - and the whole concept is a user friendly version of TB. There is a tremendous support base (you get answers unlike this forum) and the guys at Postbox are great.

No I do NOT work for Postbox but they saved my life and my business after I found them hence this glowing declaration of support!!

TB was a great idea. Postbox takes it to the next level and you will not have any more problems with embedded images - believe me!!
